I have a problem with my 2010 prius. For some weird reason i can't move the HUD up or down, the other buttons work just fine. Has anyone ever had a problem like that?

Did you spill something on it? Try soaking a cloth in hot water and placing it over the HUD button for a few minutes. Hopefully the steam will unstick it. You could also run a thin flat tool around the edge of the button. I hope this helps.

After that you may also use some compressed air to blow inside. Like this one:

Hopefully no electromechanical part is burned

It probably means that the servomechanism which moves the mirror (?) has failed.

I assume you're pressing the Up/Down button and NOT the brightness Up/Down :)

I ask as I made that mistake once.

So i got some news from the dealership no one knows what the problem could be. They said MAYBE the motor of the hud is broken. They also said they have never heard of a problem like this in fact even the europe date base shows that not one prius has ever had a problem like this. To fix it, it costs 700 euros :O:O

Can anyone from US ask around and save me some money?

And you are from where? Be handy to fully complete your profile including LOCATION. That way we know which Country you live in and can offer more focused advice.

If you are in the UK and have a gen3 registered later 2010, then you will probably have a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty and thus, your part should be covered.

Even if you don't and only have a 3 year warranty (like me), then if you have always serviced the car at Toyota they MAY offer a good will gesture and assist with the part costs. If you're out of warranty and got the car serviced away from Toyota then the chances are you're on your own.

Yea sorry about that. I live in Estonia. I went to Toyota and they said this is the first time they ever seen something like that, to fix it they asked 600-700 euros. Which sounds too much for that.

:confused:What position is it in, too high, too low, not visible? Since there are only a couple of suggestions, alternate between the up and down buttons while slightly "tapping" on the HUD. Ya never know. Good luck.

Has the windscreen been replaced? I wonder if some small pieces of broken glass have wedged their way into the motor?

I had a similar problem, and realised that when the car was started but the engine had turned off I.e. The sound of the engine gone I could hear the whir of the HUD motor when I pressed the up and/or down buttons. This indicated to me the HUD motors were working but not moving the display. I then applied a simple 'reset' theory used for electric windows that don't completely close. Just press and hold the HUD down or up button for 5 to 10 seconds and the HUD gimble system should reset itself and work again. It worked for me at least.

Many years after the previous post, I had the same issue on my 2017 Prius Prime tonight. The above fix did the trick - once I turned the HUD on, HUD settings came up, held the down arrow on the meter control switch(the little arrow buttons on the right of the steering wheel) for 10 seconds, and the up-down began working again.
