I wanted to find out if anyone else has experienced this. I have a 2013 Prius Three. If I drive somewhere(engine completely warm) and stop, like at a store, come back 5-10 mins later, hit the power button, sometimes the ICE will start and immediately shut off, like within 1 second. It can't be the warm up cycle as the ICE is at normal operating temperature. Anyone else experienced this? I guess it is not a issue, as one of the 20 computers is doing this and there are no lights(like cel).
Perhaps the area where is the coolant temperature sensor is getting a little bit colder and only after starting the hybrid system the circulating (already warm) liquid warms up the sensor back? Is the cabin heating ON or OFF? It may also play a role.
Happened to me once. While waiting at a red light in ready and fully warm. Some kind of glitch. At least it was not a gas pedal glitch.
Yeah, I've had that a couple of times. It might also be affected by the coolant around the sensor cooling off, so the engine starts running and the coolant gets pumped around, and the circulating coolant from the engine is warmer, so it shuts off again.
same here, a couple of times. have mo idea why. also had times where the ice ran for no good reason... full charge and engine warm.
But the water pump is electric, which means the engine does not circulate the water. IDK, I guess I'll just drive it.....
Yes, but once you switch the car ON the coolant pump (and many others) comes to operational status. Except the brake boost, which lives it's own life
Sure it does. This function is put in for servicing at the shop (when they need the engine to run on demand).
It happened several times when I was waiting for something, getting bored and pressed the accelerator pedal just to see what will happen. Normally ICE starts but after few consecutive attempts it said NO! Perhaps the car send me a message "don't bother me when it is not necessary"
LOL, adaptive behavior? Sometimes the car surprises me too. I'm used to seeing ICE kick in every time I accelerate past the mid point in HSI. There was one day when it kept accelerating in EV past the mid point. Mind you, the EV button was not pressed. The best I can explain, traction battery was near full and ECU decided to burn the charge to make some room for regenerative braking,
Were you in ECO mode? Had this happen too after coming off a long hill with a very full charge. Think I got up to like 43mph on a flat road before the ICE kicked in.
The past couple of times I've noticed this, it has happened when the car starts with the ICE coolant above 65°C (thus, no warmup cycle), and then the temperature drops below 65° and the engine turns on.
Never happened to me but now that you've mentioned it, I'll probably be more aware of it and it WILL happen...lol. Will report back if it does, I have a 2013 prius base model.
