I have already replaced my windshield twice on my 2011 and just got a rock chip on my 2013 yesterday. was not driving too close, but it was raining and debris was flying everytwhere. going to see if the chick can be fixed today.

I too had a rock or something else crack the windshield. Was wondering about having clear bra type material applied to the windshield.

Googled it and this thread came up:

Suggest a windshield clear bra type cover?

It won't protect against the big impacts, but may help protect against smaller chips from gravel and small stones.

did you ever have any problems with wiper motor after windshield being replaced. just got my windshield replaced and when I got the car back, wiper motor went out. they changed the wiper motor and "programmed" it...whatever that is, just seemed odd to me that it was okay before, and then not.

just got my windshield replaced, got the car back and then the wipers did not work. new motor and "reprogramming" of said motor and I am on the road again minus $400.

Who did the windshield (what brand?). Are there any optical issues like ghosting/tripling of light that others like myself have had?

your guess is as good as mine on brand, I took it to the dealer and did not find out they outsourced to some off brand outfit until after the fact. I do not see any distortion or other optical issues yet....big yet.

Had two windshields changed and no motor problems. No optical problems.

This club is becoming too popular. Replaced my windshield last week due a one foot crack which grew out of a very small dot of a stone chip about one inch in from the left edge. The chip was in the black margin so I didn't see it. If I had seen it I would have had the chip repaired which may have prevented the crack. the new windshield is from Safelite and cost $350.00. According to the Safelite technician, the type of windshield in the Prius is susceptible to cracks because of the thin glass and no molding around the outside edge.

The 2010 U.S. Prius hatchback has no outside molding. I have not noticed whether the U.S. Prius V or later U.S. hatchbacks have an outside molding (or moulding as it is spelled in the UK and Canada). It would be interesting to compare the rate of cracking between the Prius molded and unmolded windshields.

P.S. I attended Canadian schools for grades 6, 7 and 8. It took me decades after moving back to the U.S. to get the "u", "tr", doubling of pre-suffix consonants, etc. out of my spelling vocabulary.

So my windshield broke on my second day of ownership. Had less than 200 miles on the odometer. A pickemup truck well in front of me spit up gravel on the highway. Insurance covered it. Note that I do not say it was "free" like some other folks. Trust me.... Even if it is covered by insurance, you are paying for it.

Anyway, my insurance company was fine with me specifying Toyota OEM glass. I went to a reputable local shop (not a chain) and asked if I could watch. They said OK. not that I was going to give any advice.... Just that the Pri was still my baby. The install was really good. No issues and looked like the day I got it at the dealership. (um, which was the prior day.)

There's no moulding on Aussie gen III. Don't know about the V as I haven't had a close look. I've over 100,000 miles on my 2010 and only had two windscreens, though present one is chipped. That's about average for any car I've driven, particularly with a lot of rural dirt roads.

Which Safelite did you go to?

I have had my Prius for just two weeks and I got a star crack. :( It is at the dealer right now for some touch-up paint and they didn't think they could fix it. I called my insurance company and they told me to stop by Safelite in Arlington, VA tomorrow and have them take a look. If Safelite can't repair it, they estimated it would cost about $490, which is $10 under my comprehensive deductible. (After this I am going to look into lowering my comprehensive deductible...). I am seeing all these repair quotes on the forum that are much less than that, so I'm hoping to find it for less. Did that $350 in Maryland include labor?

The total price, including labor, etc., was $350.79. Safelite is a large franchise company that stands behind its work with a strong guarantee but the quality of work still depends on the individuals who work at the particular Safelite shop. For that reason, I can only recommend the Safelite Autoglass shop at Worman Mills Ct. #14, Frederick, MD 21701. Ask for Dwayne who is the manger there (301-698-9875). He was courteous, professional and his team did an excellent job of replacing my windshield.

Thank you! Very good to know. Before I even saw your earlier post, my insurance company helped me make an appointment to swing by the Safelite closest to my dealer (in Arlington, VA) tomorrow after I pick the car up to see if they can repair it, but if they can't, I will definitely give Dwayne and his team in Frederick a call about the replacement. Worth the drive for good service at a great price. Really appreciate the tip.

If it is not one thing it is another!
recently a weed wacker broke my hatch (small) glass and now I broke my windshield. This happened because I had my wipers up and one snapped back down. With the after market wiper, it allowed the wiper to invert when it came down so there was a lot of concentrated force. This resulted in about a 1.5ft crack right up the center of the windshield.

Unlike the rear glass replacement, I am not opting to do this one myself. I do have full glass coverage via Geico and the total cost of the replacement will be $0. They are sending me to safelite and fortunately because I have the HUD they are putting in an OEM windshield. safelite called me to confirm it will be OEM but it will take a few days to get.

My only concern is the "Reveil molding", air dam, and windshield stopper. Respectively 9, 4, and 2\3 in the picture below

I am not sure if safelite will have these or if I should buy them and provide them when I bring my car in.

Also the way the rear view mirror connects to the car looks scary. Have any of you noticed problems with how it reattaches after your windshield was replaced? I do not have the LKA system but it is auto dimming. The windshield is over $1000 retail but the rear view mirror carries a higher pricetag!

So the answer is Yes you need "9" and after calling safelite and offering to buy and bring it to them they said they would get one at no cost to me.

Replaced mine in May. Took a rock right at the edge and cracked to the center.

SafeLite replaced it with a generic US produced one. Seems pretty good and seems to have a little less distortion than the original.

Took a rock (chip) in July and Safelite repaired that too. Hard to keep them pristine up here... lol

Yeah... in this case safelite has to use an oem or else the hud will not reflect correctly. geico and safelite both asked me a bunch of times to confirm I had the hud...
