Title and photo set the expectations. Rationalizing a stripped wheel has a much validity as the "no keys 2013 Prius v" thread, where I presume the fobs weren't explicitly mentioned, but were surely expected.

Title said steering wheel and picture showed steering wheel. Title did not say steering wheel controls or air bag.

    Not exactly the same.
The car isn't functional or driveable without the key/fob, so it's expected (although, one has to ask, given your premise, was a photo of the keys/fob included in the vehicle's listing?)
Technically (and splitting hairs) The wheel will still steer the car, even without the "other stuff".

As I'd stated, it's a communication issue. I don't see intentional deception on the seller's part, and he's willing to come to an amicable settlement. I do see an unreasonable expectation on the part of the buyer. $150 for the entire steering wheel assembly with full trim, airbag and controls is too good to be true to anyone having common sense.
At the very least, as a buyer, before spending $150 + shipping, I'd have asked the questions......

With respect, the photo showed the entire wheel with controls. I'll stipulate to no bag. All that said, the description could have been clearer. To suggest caveat emptor post facto places the seller in a unique category.

Also specifically said "Softex/leather wrapped steering wheel"
The airbag, nor the controls, are either Softex/leather wrapped.

Again I see no deliberate deception on the seller's part. They could have, and should, have made mention of the fact that it was the wheel only, as anyone with common sense would know, just to prevent such an issue.
That being said, this wasn't an eBay listing.
It's a sale on a forum, member to member. I think that, again, due diligence is an even greater requirement on the part of the buyer.
Both sides at some fault, they have to share the "hit".

This whole thing is a mess. I'm not sure the OP will see the humor in this, but similar thing happened in this thread:

    http://priuschat.com/threads/fs-2013-pearl-rear-hatch-garnish.130734/

But I wasn't even tempted to purchase the trim piece for sale, which I don't need, and isn't even the right color for my car, and then insist the seller send me his washer and dryer as well. That certainly would've been a great deal, but ridiculous to be expected, even if the seller said "what you see is what you get". :D

I see no deliberate deception, but I do see a poor picture and description. This is why I'm always exceptionally careful to either only photograph what's included and/or be extremely clear in the description.

Why would you stipulate to no air bag, but stipulate to the controls? That's not logical. Both were included in the picture, yet neither can be called "OEM Softex leather-wrapped steering wheel". It's either all of the extras, or none. You can't be picky. If you stipulate to no air bag, then be consistent and stipulate to no controls.

I agree I should've been more clear with my ad. Lesson learned.

The controls were shown in the photo. The air bag was not, hence I'll stip to that.

An "OEM Softex leather-wrapped steering wheel" as you'd like it to have been should have been a photo of the bare wheel assembly -- which you would have had available, since that's what you apparently sent. Fair enough?

Nope. Not fair. This was the photo:

Airbag was in the photo, as were the controls. Please do not pass around misinformation.

I'll stipulate to not adequately describing my item, but that's no excuse for a childish buyer.

I reiterate that I was willing to compromise with the buyer, with a fair and reasonable offer.

Photo shows wheel, controls, bezels/covers and garnishes.

The air bag is a device mounted beneath all that, that can't be seen in the photo.

Thanks for recognizing the inadequate description, though. Sounds like what you meant to show is just the skeleton. Wheel Skeleton.jpg Drivers Airbag.jpg

Air_Boss, I think you are being a bit ridiculous in your description of the airbag. You are implying then that I should send him the plastic cover, because it's seen in the photo, but not the air bag unit itself. That's just lame:

Dtew said it best:" By the conventions and standards we use here (how we upgrade, how we sell things, what comes bundled/a-la-carte, and costs) and in other car forums/enthusiast communities, you are in the right".

Some are calling me a novice seller, and perhaps they are right. BUT, this was not an Ebay sale. This sale occurred in a car enthusiast community, where one would have the presumption that the buyer would have read some of the posts on steering wheel swaps. Who here on PC purchased a new airbag or controls when they upgraded their steering wheels from a plastic one to an aftermarket one?

The buyer, per his own words, just doesn't want to be bothered to unbolt a few screws to use his own parts! How is he then in the right, and I in the wrong? This is a big mess, and the childish and novice person here is the buyer, not me.

The lameness is failing to show a photo of only the wheel skeleton you actually intended to sell, then trying over and over to rationalize the use of the photo of a complete article. It's not as if you hadn't already disassembled the wheel, right?

First you called me scammy for having deleted the ad, even though the buyer did the same to his posts. Then you argue that the airbag need not be included in the sale, because it sits behind a plastic cover, which you no longer dispute to be lame as an argument. Slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

Yes, I agree that my description of the item was deficient, lame, but the buyer did receive a OEM leather wrapped steering wheel. He can easily use his airbag and controls, and that would have been the end of that. Rather, he doesn't want to be bothered, and that's the lamest thing I've heard anywhere:

Buyer in a private message to me: "Not sure what to do with it <bare steering wheel> as I really don't want to deal with swapping everything out on my current one to this one"

Wouldn't you agree that's lame? Perhaps we can also agree on this one small point.

I attempted to settle with the buyer with what I believe to be a fair offer. The buyer wants to hide behind his apparent 100% Ebay rating to prove that he's in the right, even though this was not an Ebay sale, but rather a sale in a community of enthusiasts with plenty of threads on DIY steering wheel swaps.

He wants me to cover the cost of his return shipping and to refund him completely. That's wrong.

Paypal will figure this out, and I firmly believe they will find in my favor, but time will tell. For what it's worth, I too have a 100% Ebay rating in both sales and purchases, but that's besides the point.

Let Paypal sort it like you said. You offered a refund if they paid for return shipping. That was fair enough.

I'll take your experience as a future experience for myself when selling.... word and explain the item like I am selling to a first grader.

So you're back on the airbag being included?

Wow. You should also stip to being a hardcase.

The photo AND description should have been exactly what you were selling, no more.

Wow....cannot believe all that I just read! It was a lousy (but nowhere near misleading) description that would have prompted any intelligent or experienced person to ask additional questions. If the seller had then lied about what was included....that is another story. Also...if he would have just blown off the buyer in this matter, I would have been on the buyers side but that is not what happened and what the seller is offering is perfect! The fact that the buyer is squirming and now trying to take advantage of the seller and the situation seriously makes my skin boil! If you want a great deal on something....go earn it! Don't try to blackmail someone.

EDIT: To the seller....if you give this guy anything else than what you have already offered....I will find you!!
