It has gotten cold and snowed here last nite,, This is my first cold weather with my 2008 2nd gen prius, I love it, however I am looking to get the car warm inside and windshield side windows and back window cleaned the fastest, What settings do you use? I am not concerned about using fuel, just get it done! I have turned on the rear defogger but I need the experienced folks advice here, thanks in advance
Your best bet if the windows are iced up on the outside is to turn the car on and use the front and rear defog/defrost settings. One thing you should avoid as much as possible is scraping the windshield, it's fairly soft glass and scratches easily. Let the front defroster run until you can just wipe the windshield clean with the wipers/washer rather than having to take a plastic scraper to it. A bristle brush to brush snow off or a soft squeegie are OK too, as long as you know there's no grit on the squeegie or the windshield itself.
Nice to know. It's weird because I grew up with plastic scrapers and we used them on the windows like it was totally normal. I wasn't aware that the windshields were different...I wouldn't think they would be.
I have been wondering the same thing. We get more ice on the cars then snow. But in the past I have been using liquid deicer. I don't know if it hurts the coating on the prius winshield or not. I also used to have remote start so I never had to sit in a cold car, till now.
As with any car, High heat and all defrosters blazing. Then, go outside armed with a scraper and get it while its melting. I haven't had any issues with scratched glass from last winter. Just don't go stupid on it.
