My subscription to XM Radio expires tomorrow. I noticed on the Sirius XM website that they had a new Chat option. I tried this first and was told that they had no current promotions. He finally offered a Mainly Music promotion for $9.99 per month which I declined.

I did what I have done every year and called their Cancellation Department. I explained that at the full price rate that I would like to cancel. If I could keep my current half-price rate, or a lower cost promotion, I would consider renewing. She checked my account and immediately offered my current rate at a total cost of $103.25 which is a slight increase from last year's rate of $100.54. I immediately accepted.

I love listening to The Bridge on Channel 32 which is '60's and 70's era music. No commercials and I can listen while driving across the state without having to change channels or surf for another station. My wife loves it on our trips to see the kids and grandkids.

So, I am good for another year :)

I do the same. Last year got pushback from the initial guy I got. Said you can't do back to back promotional prices. So I called back and immediately got what I wanted.

$86 total ? Mine is $86 a year but then you add the Royalty Fees and Taxes and the total goes to $103.25.

Renewed my subscription last night. 5 months of XM Select for $24.99. They said they don't offer the 6 months for $24.99 anymore.

Slacker Radio for $3.99 a month... works just about all the time and if you don't have signal that is ok, before your trip just "cache/download" what ever stations you like to listen to. I have made many road trips listen to only one cached station for 6+ hours before i heard the same song twice. To add to this, i listen to it on my computer at work all day and hardly ever hear the same song twice in one day.

My 1 yr. subscription ( to start when my trial is up on 11/23) was $106.88 w/ royalty's and tax. Could be because I am in California and the Democrats are taxing the $h!t out of everything.

Or it could just be that XM is run by greedy right-wing capitalists who don't care about their customers and charge as much as the market will bear.

I gave up on Sirus XM, due to their questionable renewal practices which border on fraud. They send you an invoice for $179 after the service period is up; then when you call to cancel then they come up with a discount. Why can't they give you the best price up front; then I may have renewed. They did the same thing after the trial period.

So I cancelled, now they said I owe them for a weeks service. It's not my fault they purposely send the invoice after the service ends. Plus, they charge extra for an invoice; I wouldn't trust them with my VISA number.

I just call their Cancellation Department a few days before my annual subscription is to expire and they will immediately offer me another year at my current half price discount. I like XM radio enough to put up with this minor hassle once a year.

I agree that this is a very questionable renewal practice. They asked me to fill out a survey this year and I loaded them down with my thoughts on their renewal practices.

It's always worth calling to "cancel", then negotiate a cheaper rent. It's worked every time for me.

Gotta love American 'marketing' where "free" AM/FM music is "sold" via XM!

I pay approximately 10 bucks a months for talk radio I'd never hear an equivalent of on regular radio and a variety of music stations that play music that would never be played on regular radio. Big content differences between SXM and regular radio.

I guess I pay to not hear "radio" ruined by corporate formulas from the likes of Clear Channel and an overzealous FCC.

I just got an initial subscription notice since my 3month trial to SiriusXM Select will end soon.

    $36.04 for 6 months
    or
    $119.18 for 12 months
(both prices are after fees and taxes)

I am going to have to go through the 'call and threaten to cancel' routine either way so it seems like the 6 month option is the best deal.

It is exactly that *kind* of financial "game-playing" that fostered my disdain for both OnStarâ„¢ and XM services.

:)Big Sirius/XM fan here. Continuos subscriber since 2001. I'm a wheeler dealer, but I get my wife to call Sirius/XM and DirectTV (since 1995) when time to renew or check rates. I consider the cost of both to be cheap entertainment compared to other things in life.

I remember getting all sorts of junk mail w/basically descending prices after I let the XM trial on my '13 Leaf run out. A fellow Leafer told me about how you end up eventually receiving good deals if you wait long enough.

I recently finally found time to answer one of offers: $20 for 5 months of XM Select. With royalty fees and crap added, it came out to $22.49. I need to make sure I cancel before it auto-renews at a crappy rate.

After my 24-month service visit at the Toyota dealer recently, I received an offer in the mail from XM for two months free service, no credit card required.

I, too, just got one for my CMax Energi after its SIX months free trial and opted for the 12 month plan above. This is for the full service which on the CMAX includes traffic and live weather radar (very cool) among other services. The quality of FM reception and selection around here sux.
