    Psst. It's Jeff Cobb. ;)

Gas prices are certainly taking their toll. $2.88/gal here.

Bob Just a head's up. hybrid cars tesla figures for the US are a little high, at least through September. inside EV has correct numbers through september, and from the track record, likely October. Tesla only reports figures once a quarter, so monthly is impossible to do, but the numbers do add up for the 3 month periods.

    Monthly Plug-In Sales Scorecard
For July through October, numbers are 1800, 1300, 1000, 800.

The lower US sales really are production constraints, wil production going to Europe. The conference call spelled out the biggest constraint to sales are battery cells from Panasonic.

Not a full explanation but I've heard August includes the Sept. Labor Day holiday weekend.

Note the drop in september for hybrids was about the same drop as normal cars.

That october stayed as low as september is the real drop. One reason for the lower take rate may be lower gas prices.

Until I really looked at the numbers, I thought that may be a reason, but year on year light vehicles grew 10.5%. This may be less than if there had been no shutdown but it is strong growth. Hybrids only grew 0.8%, loosing market share. For the year hybrids have grown 19% mainly because of new models as previously noted. The only way the shutdown would be to blame would be government purchases of hybrids.

Diesels grew slightly less than the market. Plug-ins grew significantly faster than the market but growth slowed to 38% while its been averaging over 100% for the year. I don't expect plug-ins can grow at 100% again next year, but new choices should have growth exceed 50% growth. A little of plug-in growth may come from hybrids, but it is mostly from cars without a traction battery.;) Plug-ins may even draw people to buy more hybrids.

While looking at the bottom feeders, I just notice the RAV4 EV is at zero. Is it officially dead?

91 units in october. 1006 ytd, It appears toyota is committed to make their 2012-2014 ZEV mandate with the rav4 ev. After that it may depend on how well the fuel cell vehicles sells, as they can sell fewer feul cells for the zev mandate than bevs, IIRC 4/7 for the period 2015-2017, then in 2018 bevs and fuel cell vehicles are supposed to be equalized, but carb may change this again to stay a big incentive for fuel cells as Mary Nichols favors fuel cells over plug-ins, and is quite powerful politically in the state.

I didn't find it in the original web page so I set it to zero for now. Part of the problem is I didn't do my ordinary "any new model" check when I was working on the four-month trend table.

If you check the Toyota Pressroom, they post their monthly sales and announcements. That would be 'horses mouth' for what Toyota is doing.

If that was the reason for slow hybrid sales, why did light vehicles go up 10.5% . There are places in the economy that were hurt by the government shutdown, but auto sales and the stock market mainly shrugged off the feud between boehner and reid. They had factored in the cry baby and the liers tactics and expected a last minute deal with pork in it to reopen the government. That is exactly the turd sandwich these mainstream republicans and democrats gave us.

Certainly the tea party did not shut down the government, there are too few people. It was the leaders, who want to blame anything. Let me ask you this, would it have been so bad for boehner to pass a clean continuing resolution with democratic votes? Tea partiers could not have stopped that. Would it have been so bad if Reid had put up say a fig leaf, a delay of 3 months in a tax on people that did not buy insurance on an exchange after the aca cancelled their insurance (we have 1 month now, 3 would have done it) to not shut down. No of course not. He was more interested in bullying. Neither care about the american people.

    All very true.
However, in the past you could say the the government was not sincerely interested in listening to the people.
But we now know that is not true...we have the NSA.

I feel like the federal credits are enough. It seems with no further incentives, texas is number 4 behind california, florida, and washington state.

The not tesla is all about the auto dealers pac, and supported by the big auto companies.

Still the incentive should sell more volts and leafs. Tesla will continue to do just fine, but we need to smack the ada pac, and allow tesla easier access. You see tesla S's every where in austin now. I see more than leafs.

I haven't seen a prius phv in my state, but that is all because toyota doesn't support plug-ins here.
