Troy is just p1ssed off that he wasted a sh1t load of money on cars over the last few years. That's the only reason he's posting crap here. He might as well have gone onto any car forum and slag off anyone who has bought a new car.

I bought a Prius so I can save money to buy a 911 in a few years (which will run as a second car) and at present the Prius does what I had hoped it would do, has very small running costs. People do not buy a Prius because it's a tremendously fun car to drive, it's bought to save money / the environment whilst still having all the things that we may want including air con, 4 doors, low running costs, decent size boot space, automatic, 6 cd changer, seat 5 adults, etc etc

Being wrong does not make him a troll, providing he honestly believes what he's posting.

If greenercars actually says that, then they are wrong. My Tesla puts out ZERO emissions, and my electricity is generated without putting out ANY emissions. Some purveyors of FUD like to compare the cleanest gas cars to EVs running from electricity generated by the oldest, dirtiest coal-fired generators. Admittedly, my Tesla is not "economical" transportation. It is a rich man's car, and fun to drive. But it is as clean as a car can be, at zero emissions and zero carbon, at the car and at the site of electricity production.

The last sentence in your paragraph is the first actually stupid thing you've said, and really does make you look like a troll:

Canada and Siberia do grow food, and a LOT of it. Global warming will not increase the area of land where food can be grown. It will shift agricultural zones from places where there currently is the infrastructure for agriculture to places where there is not. And it will make rainfall patterns more erratic, therefore making crop yields much more variable, leading to strong price fluctuations and food insecurity, especially for low-wage workers. It will also raise sea level, moving the oceans far inland, reducing the land area for agriculture and habitation, and it will increase the intensity of damaging storms. The claim that increasing atmospheric CO2 is good for the human race is pathological.

That would just make him an idiot. In Heagy's case a troll he is, because he refuses to consider or acknowledge all the additional that have been put before him multiple times that would change his conclusion. Even *Mojo*, e.g., would admit that a higher quality car that has less repairs will cost less, all else being equal.

Frankly, if I had chosen the sh1t cars he did, I'd be pretty mad too.

The county assesses my wagon at $100 so I only pay 20 bucks a year in property tax. I own the title, and insurance runs about $300 a year. Parts are cheap, just had to replace the front brake calipers at $16 a piece. If the day comes and I need to replace the motor, I can get a used one for a couple hundred bucks and install it over a weekend.

But it only averages about 15 mpg and probably emits more CO2 sitting in my driveway than my Prius does running 80 down the highway.

Sometimes it's not all about the Benjamin's.

It's never about money unless you don't have it... LOL!

Maybe that's why there's so much discussion?

For those still attempting to reason feed TH, please see this link and note the URL starts with his name - i.e. he probably created it > Troy Heagy Dies In Car Crash

If you google his name, it's clear he's done threads like this for years to annoy and waste your time. Do you really think reasoning with him even with ironclad testimonies on your hybrids will stop him? Do you?

We all know that the internet was invented for two things, and two things only: To distribute porn and to share stories (with pictures) of cute things cats do. Everything else is just killing time. Arguing with people whose opinions you will never change is the filler for when you're not downloading porn or posting/reading cute cat stories. Admittedly, there's a small amount of actual information on the net, but it's a minuscule and insignificant proportion, that can be ignored for all practical purposes.

Posting fake stories about your own death actually sounds like a rather imaginative way to waste time, if it didn't come canned out of a web site. Really, Chuck, I don't see why you're so upset. This guy is doing no harm to PC. The mods here are on the ball and if they haven't banned him they clearly don't think he's a problem. There are people on PC who post truly virulent political hate rants, and all Troy has done is make a rather old-hat claim about the economics of hybrids, and reveal his ignorance about the long-term effects of atmospheric CO2.

This thread isn't even in the car forums. FHOP is the place for any old kind of nonsense, and if it isn't fun nobody has to come here. I've actually learned something from this thread: I was always of the opinion that you don't "save" money by buying a Prius. I bought mine, not to save money, but to be nice to the environment and to enjoy the cool technology. But I've learned from several of the other posters that for high-mileage drivers, the lifetime cost of ownership can indeed be less for a Prius than for a comparable gas car. I'd not have learned this had Troy not posted his mistaken opinion. Well, mistaken in regard to high-mileage drivers.

    Daniel,

All you see is what he has done on this thread. If it had someone else's name attached to it I might not have replied at all. My perspective is being on at least three other forums he stalked that had flamewars that escalated to the extent of the topics we differ on in past threads. Add to that what Google reveals.

Maybe if you had my other experiences with TH, you still would be asking what's the deal? While PC members have done a better job than most forums in not letting him engineer a flamewar, that's not to say it won't. One possibility is if we got into a public fight on whether or not he's harmful...I'd be giving him a feast so I won't.

I linked his faux obituary to point out the lengths he will resort to for those that continue this thread. I've already posted more than I cared to.

Like I said, make your case to the mods. Up to now, he's been civil on this thread. As long as everyone is civil, there's no flame war. Just one thread that will eventually die when everyone gets tired of it. And if he is just trying to start a flame war, and nobody flames, then he'll get tired and go away. It takes two sides to have a war.

As for the fake obituary, it seems a bit childish to me, but harmless.

Yeah it's in good shape, a little over 300k on the original drive train. Starting to make some valve train noise, but if I run 10w40 oil it keeps it pretty quiet ;)

He didn't need to create that URL or post that fake story, anybody could have done it. While the hoax news generator link posted by Sagebrush will easily do it, I found that simply changing the URL in my brower's address bar is sufficient. I.e. editing the URL from 'troy.heagy.swellserver...' to 'chuck.honda.enzyte.driver.swellserver...' produced the same story headlined 'Chuck Honda Enzyte Driver Dies In Car Crash'.

The full term is not a registered URL, the first fields in the name are simply passed on as an argument to the web page generator. Numerous advertisers with 'special deals just for me' have done same thing, trying to direct me to their base websites with my name similarly placed in the URL.
