Could someone help me identify this junction box and what pins to get the reverse signal from? A photo would be great if anyone has one. I have ordered a Sony ccd camera and wireless kit. Has anyone used this to avoid routing cables?

I installed such a wireless CCD camera kit from Sony. It is all described in the recent threats.
Info on the junction box can be found in this link, about the middle.
you need to look for Rückfahrsignal in the text. There are two different versions. The trim level SOL without navigation and the trim level executive with navigation. in the non-nav cars the junction box is in the left footwell on the left side. the center connector for the nav cars is located right of the radio. there are pictures of everything in the link.

Many thanks IVE. I was getting worried that having ordered the parts I would not find the junction box for the reverse signal. I can now start preparing the wiring for their arrival.

    Thanks again.

Sadly having looked in the left hand footwell for the reversing signal on IF1 '6' there are no wires in it!. I have a UK spec 2008 Prius and wonder if the US wiring schematic I am using is reversed on a right hand drive car? The alternative is to locate and tap into J10 'A' which looks further into the dashboard than I feel confident to venture.

    Any ideas?

If your car has a navigation system, check the prius wiki page section that shows the main connector right of the radio. It is on the same page. Not a big deal to get to. The main connector will be there with a high likelihood. The footwell one is only for cars without navigation, LHD at least.

I forgot to add mine is a non nav version RHD with no wires in the footwell. I will look into the radio area. Many thanks

Having found a suitable connection for a reverse signal and wired it to the MFD pin 21 as mentioned throughout these posts it doesn't show in the hidden test screen when engaging reverse. Although there is 12v going into the pin there is no 6v coming out of pin 29 of M13. Any idea guys?

I finally got my reversing camera to work on my 2008 no satnav T4. All of the existing diagrams showing the reverse signal point did not apply to my car! Everything is different in the UK. I found a very easy point to attach the cable under the glove box on the LHS of the vehicle, next to the cabin air filter. By also popping up the central speaker access to the cables on the reverse of the MFD was easy. feeding the cable between the two points didn't require the removal of any panel except the glove box. To save time I bought a transmitter and receiver which were hidden in the boot lid and behind the MFD. The signal works well through the car.

Hope others in the UK find this useful.

While flicking through this thread to try to pick up where I left off, I noticed it mentioned an NTSC camera.

Hmm, I mounted and partially wired (so far wires run up to the passenger seat :D ) a PAL camera I think...
No problem if going ahead with one of my plans of mounting a 2DIN new headunit with 7" screen, but I'd prefer the camera to be plugged into the Prius MFD for obvious reasons (radio isn't always ON and has a detachable screen that I could forget to take with me...)

So what happens if I hook up a PAL camera to the MFD? Or should I report back the results if and when I find out :ROFLMAO: ?

I'd be very disappointed if I had to replace the camera, as it cost me hours and many scrapes on my hands (not funny when full of bloodthinners...) to put the camera in place.

(Total investment: ~25$ total for camera, silver-spray-can, 2" PVC coupling-pipe that fits the camera snugly (2" length, not diameter!), and tube of superglue, we'll see how it holds up)

you will get a blavk and whie picture using a PAL cam on a NTSC monitor. If you work on cars, wear mechanics gloves. Rubberized cotton gloves work as well. few bucks at Home Depot. never have knuckles or scuffed hands again. believe me.

    Dear Sir!
I am installing the back up camera on my Toyota Prius 2009 and I would like to ask, where Can I find spare pins for these two connectors???(M12,M13)?
I need same spare pins to connect video +, video -, signal and the REV signal.
    Thank you!

you can use pins from a DVD drive to motherboard audio cable. alternativly, you can get genuine Molex pins on ebay, sometimes in a set with a connector. Best to use a proper crimping tool.
see also this link. German, but the pictures tell you most. Just remove the spaces to create the usable link.

I found molex pins from dvd rom audio cable....
I released them from the plug with some length of wire on each of them.I soldered two of these wires to a female RCA plug and I try to insert these pins in the MFD M12 and M13 plugs.
I would like to ask you,do this procedure need force?Because I tried to insert them with my hand, with out force and they did not go to their final position.......

Done!!! Took a day of guessing and almost gave up but it works! For a 2006 with factory reverse camera. I did the reverse camera anytime mod first months ago then found a cheap $12 ebay camera. So I have one button to turn on/off then a switch to change feeds.

    20141213_144531.jpg

Here is a quick pic of my switch.I cut the input from pin 27. FRONT is the input from the new front camera, the middle pin goes to pin 27 (V+ red) on the back of the MFD,and the last pin in the input from pin 27 REVERSE cam. Added a blocking diode on pin 29 (CA+)

My test rig you can see the left wire is input from the FRONT cam, middle is output to the MFD,and right is the REAR input.

Here you can see the red cable below that is the input from the REVERSE cam the opther side of that was connected to PIN 27 which is now out MFD input pin. Ran a seperate wire to the same pin27 that I can swap my input on.

Extra install pics if it helps anyone.

I've moved the camera to the other side since this picture. Oh and strangly enough I did not ground the FRONT video input I only wrapped it around it'self. Any other place I grounded including to pins caused interference issues.

So I *finally* installed the 2DIN headunit as my 1din behind the fold-down flap started to cause issues.

But I still want to try to hook the camera up to the MFD instead\of the double din. Here's the problem: I have a different MFD from the pics in this thread or the German Wiki. Any clues as what to do next? Anywhere I can find the pinouts?

As said earlier in this thread, I long ago mounted the camera, before knowing there *may* be a plug in the boot-lid. Since the Toyota dealer said I cannot mount a camera, I am assuming there might not be one, so not opening the plastic trim just yet (cost me a couple of mountingpins last time...) to see what colors of said connector might correspond with wires from the plug in the MFD.
still have the dash disassembled so maybe plugs fell out, but I think I really only have the single plug as shown in the above picture.

BTW, I think I may have discussed this issue before, so I am still searching for answers elsewhere.

Edit: indeed, but a dead end.
