We are leaning towards a new 2013 Plug In due to the rebates and a dealer /Costco quote I got that put the out the door price at ≈ $27,175 with tax, lic, $2750 Toyota rebate, 2500* Fed and $1500* Ca rebates (*though the money comes later: tax time and 60 days respectively). vs. ≈ $21,000 used ($20K - 39K miles) with tax & lic for a Prius Three. (per Wikipedia) Though the 2014's are due to arrive in Nov. at $2,000 less MSRP (per Wiki). I guess that is why Toyota is giving $2,750 of 2013' until Nov 4. Wiki says there are basically no changes to Plug In for 2014, so I guess $750 less for a 2013 vs 2014 new. Anyone think of a reason to hold off? Maybe the Costco dealer rep deal above would not be as good on a 2014. I am thinking it might be safer to go with the 2013 now. Or if there is enough stock of the 2013 White Plug In, maybe wait and see if the deal may get even a bit sweeter on a 2013 when the 2014's get to the dealer lots? We are actually ready to pull the trigger very soon (read: wife screaming BUY IT!). I vaguely recal the strategy of going to a show room on the evening of the last day of the month to get a good deal. But I think these days, just phoning around and getting 'best deal' dealer quotes that way, may be better (certainly less stressful!!!) I got an email from a guy at that dealer saying: "I am the Costco Auto Buying Program Manager for Antioch Toyota." and he gave me what seems a very good price (above). I wonder if each dealer has a Costco program guy, or if one guy covers many dealers?

So what is the sales price before incentives you negotiated? The standard right now is $2k off MSRP. Backing into your numbers sounds like you are a bit shy of that. Btw because of the larger lease incentive it makes more sense to lease right now, especially given it is virtually a 0% interest rate.

I did send her an email with asking for a quote and included the local quote mentioned above. I am just researching lease options as everyone syas they are great deals right now, maybe better than purchasing. One variable on a lease I know we will go high on is mileage OVER 36K end of lease limit. We will likely go over by 30,000 mi. x .15/mile adds $4,500 to what ever they residual is on a 2013 PIP. Anyone know what the Residual (or % of MSRP) is on a 2013 PIP with Bliz.z white as only extra option? Tks
So your sales price with the Toyota $2,750 incentive is $28,088. MSRP on the 2014 is dropping by $2k = $31,102. That is a pretty good discount even compared to the lower 2014 price. By leasing you get a $5,750 incentive, so $3k more. However this is offset because you will not get the $2,500 Federal tax credit. In addition there are lease origination fees that probably amount to at least $500, so actually leasing probably would not save you any money. (FYI the way the lease works is this: with the 0% interest rate on the lease, basically after 3 years you have the option to buy the car for a fixed price called the “residiual”. Since you plan to be over miles, you would buy the car and not pay any over mileage fees. So a 0% lease is just another form of 0% financing payment plan - with an option to buy after 3 years - a bullet payment.) Btw, purchase or lease, at a 0% interest rate it makes the most sense to put zero down. There is simply no need to put down a large down payment – you get no financial benefit by doing so. Also the residual on the lease depends on how many miles per year the lease is for, and the sales price of the car. But with the 0% interest rate you can basically take your sales price less all the lease payments = the residual.
Just saying my 2012 Prius 4 with solar list is 33K and KBB says private party values is 24K. I owe 27K. I only owned the car 13 months. You may want to look at a used one big savings. The car dropped 9K plus the sales tax in 12 months. Lease may make more sense if you're opposed to used. I have been unclear on this actual offer. I actually don't think the $28,088 figure is quite relevant. The dealer got that by subtracting the $2750 from his $30,838 Taxable selling price offer. I believe the more informative number is: $30,838 Taxable selling price offer + 3,084 ≈ 10% tax and lic fees 33,922 Price with tax & lic - 2,750 Toyota Cash Rebate $31,172 OTD total to finance (would lease be the same plus ≈ $500 i lease origination fees as said above?) (the above does NOT include $395 for the Blizzard white we now want, I'm asking for Taxable Selling Price on quotes. Is there a better figure to ask for for comparisons? I just got an email quote from another dealer. He quoted MSRP $33,430 (so it has $295 mats I'll ask him to delete*) and an Internet Direct Price of "$31,880 + fees". dublin and milpitas. price is 0% and 2750 discount by toyota already factored in. 27800+TTL obviously. taxes vary by county so i don't get how you can factor these in in these quotes. 28k is > 27.8k yea only 200 but... Diane's quoting close to 29K (for the exact same vehicle)

Go ask parvez in dublin. i got milpitas to match but dublin came lower. i was able to get it lower than the price i listed in the thread. not sure if he still can offer it tho. i was their last october customer.
