Why does ScanGauge II show less than max MPG in EV?

    ScanGauge II shows various MPG values in EV (the ICE isn't running). It shows higher values at higher speeds. Does it assume some small amount of gas is always used? Or is the car providing this information with the same kind of assumption? Or... what?

    I have a new Scan Gauge II, too. I also noticed this data result. I would guess it's basing it off the vehicle speed.
    Did you set it up for Hybrid ?

    maybe it's confused because there is no such thing as miles per gallon of electricity.:p

    Yes, hybrid. It certainly has something to do with speed but it doesn't make any sense. :(

    It's just a "double-value" gauge. Rather than becoming useless when the engine is off, you get a mock power-meter in place of the 9999.

    Having upgraded from an old ScanGauge to a new one, I liked seeing that change. That direct correlation to speed is informative, even if it doesn't actually represent the MPG itself.

    Because the faster the Prius is traveling without sipping gas the higher the Prius' iMPG will be.
    Mathematically speaking it looks like this...

    MPG = (miles/gallon)
    MPH = (miles/hour)
    GPH = (gallons/hour), 0.00 to 0.02 GPH means the ICE is turned off

    MPG = MPH/GPH

    1707 mpg = 35 mph/ .0205 GPH
    745 mpg = 15 mph/ .0201 GPH

    Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I think the scanguage only records RPM's, MPH, and time. Then uses a matrix of formulas to arrive at the other values. So fuel remaining for example, is just the SG2's best guess based on the inputed values for rpm's and time in operation, etc.

    I have a 6 month old PIP and have tried to plug in my 3.5 year old Scangauge II. The things I liked to observe most on my old Gen 2 Prius aren’t available for display. I sent an e-mail to the Scangauge help desk about this and the said they couldn’t help. They pointed me to Prius Chat. I found the Excel SS showing codes discovered by PC members but there is nothing there for the PIP. Has anyone found the codes for State of Charge, Battery Voltage and Battery Amps for Plug In Prius?

    That's because there isn't any difference. Those codes should work fine... assuming your ScanGauge is running a new enough firmware version to support them.

    Are you talking about the excel spreadsheet? I've seen that and there is nothing there for PIP. There are settings for prior generations of Prius. Is there another source of data that I have not yet seen?

    Since mine is 3.5 years old, it might need an upgrade to understand the new codes and digital traffic from the CAN bus in the PIP. I will contact the help desk at Scangauge and see if that is possible. They may even have field upgrade software that can be downloaded and installed from a PC. Can you see SOC, BTA and BTV on your gauge?

    I find that Torque on my Android phone is doing something similar. Sometimes in EV mode, it shows 255; sometimes it shows some other random value o_O
