That's what I am thinking. Hopefully I can get a rental that has a windshield with more severe distortion so I can do my eye's verses my camera comparison again ;-)

I have a 2012 Prius purchased 2/2013 and yes, I do have the "ghost/halo" windshield issue with night driving and oncoming headlights. It's noticeable but not too terribly distracting for me personally.

Do you know if the replacement windshield is from Toyota's supplier or is it aftermarket?

    The replacement was from Toyota.

I am not experiencing anywhere near the ghosting that I had before. There is just a slight blurriness with certain lights and situations. This is close to normal and under normal circumstances probably wouldn't be noticed. I need to drive one of my other cars at night for comparison and peace of mind as I am hyper sensitive to the issue right now.

This is about how my new one is as well. It's not readily noticeable or nearly as distracting as my original windshield. I would say it's about 90%+ of the way there.

I would be very satisfied with that outcome. My wife, son and I noticed our SUV even has a thickening look thru the OEM windshield at night but never realized it until we were driving it the other night in town while discussing this thread

Good to hear you have it fixed finally. You get to keep the car you originally wanted ;)

I'd like to jump in on this thread also, my 2012 and my current rental 2013 both have this issue especially with led tail lights. I initially thought it was my contacts, but the descriptions I have seen describe it perfectly with a ghost image above and below the actual light. Very annoying at night.

I just wanted to post an update for everyone. Just to recap, I first reported the problem to Toyota in early March. Toyota replaced the windshield twice with factory glass (and it actually made the problem slightly worse). Next Tuesday Toyota is repurchasing my car. In the end I did not have to hire a lawyer, but did threaten to sue a couple times. Despite having to kick scream and yell a little bit, I am satisfied with the outcome.

I have already been shopping for a replacement PiP, and it appears that the most recent PiPs coming off the boat no longer exhibit the problem (but don't know for sure since I've only looked at about 10 cars).

I will have to sign a NDA saying I won't talk about my repurchase, so if anyone has any questions ask them now.

How many miles on your repurchase car?

I'm guessing they are taking it back because you convinced them it's a safety issue? What convinced them that?

How long did the process take from the time you filed your lemon complaint until they agreed to buy it back?

    Just turned 5k miles.

No. Really at no point in the process has Toyota even acknowledged in writing that there is even a windshield problem with my car to begin with (obviously they are being really careful). After the second windshield replacement didn't fix the problem, they offered up repurchasing the car - I didn't even ask for it and was even a bit shocked they didn't want to offer up other solutions. In fact it was not my first preference, and before I agreed to the repurchase I tried to see if there was a replacement PiP I could find that didn't have the problem - but I could not.

If you read between the lines I think you can figure out why Toyota is so eager to put my issue behind them.

I actually was getting no traction until I sent the letter. The process went something like this:
    • Reported the problem to dealer.
    • Got the runaround for 3 months.
    • Sent nastygram to Toyota.
    • Got written response in about 29 days.
    • Couple weeks later Toyota replaces windshield
    • A month later they replace the windshield again.
    • A month later they agree to repurchase the car.

Did they repurchase it for what you paid for it?

Yes, original purchase price minus a small mileage deduction they pulled from the California Lemon Law:

    http://www.bbb.org/us/Storage/16/Documents/BBBAutoLine/CA-LLsummary.pdf
The California lemon law, and regulations issued by the state to further explain lemon
law requirements, provide that an arbitrator may make a deduction for the buyer’s use
of the vehicle by using the following formula:
Use Deduction = (# miles driven by the consumer prior to first delivery to the manufacturer/dealer for repair of the nonconformity that led to the repurchase)/120,000 X purchase price

The deduction was so small I did not bother to argue it.

I wish I could get my window fixed, I thought it was my contacts because I can't see it as much with glasses on. It's really bad with contacts in and drives my eyes crazy.

Has anybody had an aftermarket windshield installed and had positive results? I'd like to get Toyota to do that for me, but only if somebody else says it fixed the issue and posts what manufacturer windshield they used.
