I agree that it was extremely stupid for Honda to ignore their loyal Gen I hybrid customer base - by deminumizing premature battery capacity loss issues. Certainly Honda won't game/over-extend the accord's traction pack to achieve Prius-like EPA mileage the way they did their earlier hybrids . To do the same trick to new Accord hybrid buyers would be the death knell to anyone buying Honda hybrids in the future.

Honda autos traditionally under report mpg... wouldn't be surprised if the numbers hold up.. this ain't no c-max where the early reviewers all complained about the poor mpg. it's the exact opposite here.

this is a game changer for Honda

i would also remind people that Honda accord also got the best safety ratings for offset crashes... prius did poorly on this.

if you read the tests, they average 1.5 mpg's more than the hycam. i don't expect it to be much better in the real world and not even close to prius.

Honda's dash display slightly underestimates mileage, in my experience, which is good. Not so sure about any published mpg figures. Especially once the overtaxed battery goes south.

Let's see, they got (car and driver, consumer reports) 1 mpg bettery in the fusion hybrid than the camry hybrid, does that mean the accord hybrid will get 0.5mpg better than the fusion hybrid? I don't know, all I know is with the car and driver review, they said as disapointing as the fusion hybrid was compared to the epa, that it did much better in their testing than the non-hybrid version. I'm guessing we won't get 6mpg more than the TCH in the HAH in regular driving. EPA tests and hypermiling who knows.

    Not so strange:
Americans are an optimistic people . . . we have TV channels dedicated to this optimism (i.e., Home Shopping, Infomercials) .

Considering CA (and similar states) hybrid battery warr. is 10 yr / 150k miles, makes sense that lots of driving / hybrid ownership go together.

Hopefully Honda will bring out an Accord Hybrid LX version is a year or so at about , mmmm, ..

    about $26 or 27k

I think it's getting compared to Prius because Accord Hybrid is Honda's first 'full' hybrid (besides Acc plugin, but good luck seeing one of those) and Prius is the biggest target to aim at.

It'll be amazing if it can get 45 mpg highway.

I wonder how it accelerates in everyday driving. it's so routine in Prius to roll out a few feet on electric and accel. on gas. .....

Will Acc Hy accelerate to 25, 35 , 40 mph on electric with traffic? I'd think the gas engine must kick on for every acceleration to bring the car up the traffic speed....

How is a 1.3 kWh battery going to accelerate a 3,550 lb car repeatedly in traffic? A: with gas engine?

a slight tap on the gas will turn on the ICE.
even though the EV can be turned on at any speed, the only scenario you can drive at highway speed PURELY on EV is on a hill, going down and regenerating.

Fords vs. Chevys, Hondas vs. Toyotas..... the brand loyalists will always be somewhat bias. I've owned Hondas from a 600 coupe, Civic hatchback, Accord Sedan. I've also owned a Corolla, Scion xA (still own), and currently drive a Prius. IMHO some people have different experiences with different brands. I really wanted to like the Hondas as I enjoyed all the motorcycles I owned made by them but always had various problems with them that I have never had with the Toyotas I've owned. I can say the same about the Chevys I've owned compared to the Fords. I've had many friends that have opposite experiences so I've come to believe it may just be some brands work better for some people and visa-verse. I do know I don't care for any car that uses timing belts instead of chains or gears but that is just another of my preferences as well. I'm not saying I'd never own another Honda but I do prefer Toyota products.

That is why many of us switched to a Volt. We want the EV feel during more of our driving time.

Have a Rav4ev in my garage, I would like to have a Volt too in my garage. I am holding out for their next Gen. I really want the middle seat option as some have speculated. And hopefully, GM will give a better gas sipper ICE and lighter chassis.
