:)Nice work guys. This was my second install, to what I figured was the ideal location. Required running another 240v dedicated line. I only have to deal with the six foot section of cord which hangs on a hook.

^ actually, i live on a 3rd floor. this installation is on a hallway ( 1st floor) near a common garage. The electrician constructed a conduit from my main panel all the way to where it's positioned now.
It was hard and expensive. But it was worth it.

All of you fancy folk. :p

I went el cheapo. $220 for a 220v EVSE upgrade PIP EVSE. $150 for a 220v outlet and circuit breaker install. A couple cents for a screw and zip tie.

For those that go the cheep route - just make sure what you're doing is to code / safe. Do NOT be the 1st PiP owning person (like the Volt owner below who went cheep on their charge wiring) to get laughed at for cutting corners.
    ;)

Here is my EVSE level 2 charger. It came from the OpenEVSE project as a kit. The kit can be found on the web with a Google search. The kit box is mounted on the inside wall of my garage. I had to have a 220 volt outlet wired from my breaker box. The orange wire goes to a 220 plug. The plug for my box is only about 20 feet away from the outlet so wiring was easy. It is wired for 20 amps in case I need higher current for a future car. The PIP only needs 9.5 amps at 240 VAC, so I fused the EVSE box at 15 amps and put 15 amp breakers in the main box. In addition there is a circuit that senses maximum charging current in the electronics and it is set to disable the charger at 10 amps. There is plenty of safety and margin in my installation. As a benefit it only takes about 90 minutes to get a full charge compared to the Toyota supplied cable.

Me too. Seemed like a flexible and winning combination.
