I'm in the middle of replacing the left hub assembly. This is a 07. The issue is the tie rod bolt (for lack of better terminology). In trying to install the carter-pinned nut onto the rod, the rod spins and the other end is encapsulated. Is the bottom of the tie rod removable exposing an allen slot? While I tried to remove the bottom, I did not want to mess it up, better to ask a question. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The "rod" has a recessed allen key in it. Not the ball joint end the other end, the end your putting the nut on. Just like stab links. Some really crappy tie's have no allen so just thread the bolt on the lubricated rod past till you have some threaded part to grab with a vice grip. Usually a garage will have an air gun and in that case the gun spins the bolt on so fast you don't even need to hold the rod. What kind did you buy? And its a cotter pin.
Thank you for the input. I'm away from the car for now but I'll try that. Not a cotter pin, but a tension type pin. Wheel bearing/hub assembly is what brought this about. With that methodology at work I should be able to get it done. Thanks again.
Ok good luck. PITA anyway. Don't be surprised even if you set the rod adj length to match the old one you still may have front end toe issue as sometimes the new bj is offset from the old one effecting total length so give it a good eyeball.
