Hi All, Well my screen is always on and filled will white pixel. So basically it is of no use me. See the pic. Has anyone ever changed this screen? Would like to some suggestions if possible. Otherwise just like to disconnect it completely. In late night driving, it is quite irritating on my eyes. Regards
Hi hannah, The MFD has controls for most of the A/V equipments, they may not work after you dismantle the MFD. Before you take the dash apart, I suggest trying some of the easier methods: I've not own a NHW10, these info. are taken from the Yahoo MK1 group: Method 1 Press the Display Adjustment button. The screen should display something like this. The 2nd rightmost button is to adjust the display quality. I can't see the rightmost button description, it could be for turning the display off, you can try it out. Method 2 Pull the MFD fuse. (No. 1 is on the top left corner) You can put it back if it does not work or it affects other equipments. Vincent
The Display Off switch I am aware of and it used to work but not any more. BTW: the turning off combination still works only when the key is in ignition and turned on, but the car is switched off. When the car is ready, it does not not turn off the display. Thanks heaps irrespective.
Hi Vincent, Would like to do this Method 2. Can you please be a bit more descriptive? Where do I find this MFD fuse please? Anyway, how did you get some movie running in your display? Looks nice.
On the passenger side, swing the door wide open so you can see the cover for the fuse box at the side of the dash. The MFD fuse is located at the top left corner, I 've marked it in red as below. Those photos are not mine and I 've mentioned they are taken from the Yahoo MK1 group. It is free and I encourage you to join. The movie I think is from the TV broadcast, there is a TV button next to the AM/FM button. It may only work in JP though. Vincent
Hi Vincent, Many thanks for you advice here. When I opened that little panel on the left passenger side this is what I found: Which is indeed the same what you have posted as well. I did take out PANEL Fuse but when I start the car the MFD came to life (bugger????). I then also took out ECU-B fuse (MDF, Audio ECU) as well and started the car. The display as well as the Radio were working. Please see the pic as attached the fuses I took out: So do not know really why the MFD was still on. Thanks
It is too horrible to contemplate: Power is coming in via another path The fuses were somehow tying the B+ from the MFD/Radio to a weak ground, lowering the voltage It would be interesting to measure the fuse voltage terminals to ground for each of the removed fuses while the car is ON. You'll need an insulated, longish needle probe. Expected results: 12V battery voltage, ~13.9 V when car is running on one side. < 12V battery voltage on the other If either side shows something like ground or significantly lower, you've found the bad circuit. Tracing to the fault may be a challenge. Bob Wilson
That probably makes sense that the my MFD does not turn off even when the fuse is taken out. This method used to work before. Now I believe the ignition key has 3 steps of turning, right. I can still turn the MFD off by this method when the key is in step one. But on step 2 (Read mode) or step 3 (Engine Running) I cannot turn off the MFD. So it seems the secondary power supply gets activated when the key is in position 2, if this makes any sense. Regards
I Didn't know the NHW10 had TV I also didn't know what the buttons are for under the MFD (we don't have them in the US)
Ok my MFD is now fixed. It was a mission. I got hold of a very knowledgeable person who I met through yahoo mk1 prius group and who also happens to be living in Auckland, New Zealand. He fixed it for me. There is a voltage regulator chip which was faulty in the MFD unit itself. See the pic. This is probably 4 times magnified so that you know how small is the chip. The MFD is working now.
