Nevermind... I looked on Honda.com and it says starting at $18,165 and 28 city 39 hwy... Keyword... starting....
You're paying a 2K premium over the comparable Civic "VS" Prius C MPG number are 40 "VS" 46 highway. Plus the added tax costs by the higher sales price.
It does fine on the highway. My dad took it to work today he drives 33 miles each way and its all highway he got 58 MPG and it only cost about $2.00 to drive to work. I find the seats to be just fine not the best not the worst. Road noise is def a huge downfall but as others mentioned turn up the radio and your good to go.
Ugh. When we were car shopping, we looked at a Versa for my wife. It felt like a tiny, loud, plastic-y cheap-o car to us. We wanted economy, but the Versa felt below economy to us. Maybe it was just the model we test drove. Ended up getting a '13 Corolla for her instead, the Prius for me. For my 24-mile drive home today in decent traffic, I still got 60MPG…with the AC on no less.
I enjoy everyone saying they get these phenomenal MPG numbers, but looking at your fuelly tag shows the real numbers. 53 is about as good as it gets unless you drive like grandma.
Wow this conversation got heated. I do love my Mazda 3, but the $40 a week in gas is pissing me off. I know I'm ready for the change. I'm not superficial when it comes to cars I just want it to get me where I need to be at a reasonable price. Hopefully I'll get used to it and driving in NY means your stuck in traffic or driving half as fast on the highway anyway. I feel pretty ok about it and its a lease, if after 3 years I'm not into it I can move on. iPhone ? - now Free
Dr diesel what is your deal? Are you a troll here to bash Prius and push something else? I want honest advice from Prius owners, not an argument about some cheap nonsense like a civic, if that was the case I'd stay with my Mazda 3 but economically it doesn't make sense. I just want to hear from Prius owners with first hand experience not argue about sticker prices of every car on the market. iPhone ? - now Free
And how is buying a non hybrid cheaper? Right now I stand at paying less a month for Prius than the new Mazda, but I guess that all depends on negotiations and credit. Plus insurance is less on Prius. iPhone ? - now Free
I am from long island too. I just bought my PC3 two weeks ago. So far I am very happy. I had a 2012 hyndai sonata and was averaging 26 mpg. I just got sick of filling my tank for 80-120 per week for work (40 mile commute one way) I have only filled up my tank once since I got the PC3 (it was full when purchased) and it was only $33 . 00. Wow, much better.i have been averaging anywhere from 48-60 mpg. Plus I got a great price......a 2012 leftover for 21k out the door (everything included, taxes, etc.). I don't know about you, but I got sick of the commute and the expenditures. I think the PC3 is fun to drive and I don't feel like I am going slower, even though I am. Good luck!
Thanks deb, that is very useful advice!! Especially since you drive around here! It's a mess of traffic and crazy people and good days and horrible! You just never know. Appreciate the feedback! iPhone ? - now Free
Yeah! That's why a no longer drive a Prius C Actually, I'm not a salesman at all, but I do now drive a Ford C-Max Energi The Prius C just wasn't the car for me. As a former owner, I think I have a good non bias opinion of the Prius line. I also drove a 2008 Prius liftback for 3 years. Don't get me wrong, the Prius line is a good family of cars. They're marketed properly and they serve that market designation well. I just don't think the C is a good commuter car. It's not even marketed to be a commuter. The Prius liftback would be a better choice if you wanted to go Toyota hybrid
I drove Mustang convertibles for years. My commute was 25 miles each way at speeds of 55-70 mph with lots of hills out in the country. Tired of the high fuel costs, I decided to buy a hybrid. My first stop was a Honda CR-Z. The CR-Z is Honda's effort to combine a sport coupe with hybrid technology. Some will say that Honda failed miserably, and others love the car. After 2 test drives, I realized that it was not the car for me. The major killing point was the rear visibility which is atrocious. But, you could test drive it for yourself and see what you think. Then after research I tried a Hyundai Veloster. Nice car, but also has really bad rear view visibility. Also, rightly or wrongly I was concerned about reliability. Then I tried a Prius C. I found on the test drive that if I floored the accelerator pedal it had plenty of pickup and speed to pass anyone. And the EPA numbers spoke for themselves. The price was good too. So, I bought a Prius C and shortly afterwards bought another one for my wife. I have completely changed my driving habits. I altered my route to work to eliminate the 70 mph road by taking back roads that range from 30 mph up to 55 mph. These roads see little traffic, so even on the 55 mph stretch I can pulse and glide and drive the speed I want unless I get someone behind me. I no longer accelerate hard from a stop and I do not zoom up the hills. I get a great deal of pleasure from driving the Prius C though. First of all, there is the outstanding gas mileage. I get 68-72 mpg on my way to work, and 63-69 on my way back home. Last weekend I had to go to on a 143 mile trip on highways which had speed limits up to 75 mph, and I was annoyed at my inability to get better than 52 mpg on the trip-- lol! Secondly, the car is fun to drive -- but in a very different way from the Mustang. I am always trying to improve my gas mileage, and it is, in a way, like playing a video game every time I drive. I actually look forward to my commute each day. And I keep learning little things I can do to get better gas mileage. I like the interior. It is not luxurious, but there are all these little cubby holes where you can put stuff. Oh, and btw, the rear visibility is great. I hope this post is helpful for you.
Yet the Civic was measured at 71db at 70mph whereas Prius C only was only measured at 66.5db. 2012 Honda Civic Road Test Specs 2012 Toyota Prius c Four Road Test Specs Do you work for consumer report? since you are basically quoting them. That's why I don't like car reviews that don't share their numbers. They could be very subjective. I like Car and Driver the test, they said it's not how slow the car was, it was how slow it felt. Now that's being honest. Now let's do the math and compare the cost, based on fuelly, 2012 Prius C is getting 50.7MPG on average. (That's a very low number by the way, I can easily get that on the highway.) 2012 Honda Civic is getting 34.4 MPG on average. Assuming 15,000 miles per year and $4/gallon gas price, You would save $560.75 per year driving the Prius C, so it takes 7 years to recoup the cost even if gas price stays the same. Don't believe me? Ok, let's see Kelley Blue Book's TCO comparison: 2013 Prius C One: 5 years = $32,859 2013 Honda Civic LX: 5 years = $33,691 Still don't believe me? Let's see Edmunds's TCO comparison 2012 Prius C One: 5 years = $34,709 2012 Honda Civic DX: 5 years = $36,229. Is that enough math for you? If you only do 1000 miles per year, then I would recommend a bicycle. BTW, the planet is much bigger than the USA. If you want to experience a cheap car, go drive a Chery QQ.
I don't understand Drdiesel review of this car. It sound like trolling to me. I feel really good in The C. Power is Ok for most driving condition. The car is quiet. MGP are stellar! I will surely keep this car for 10 years or more!! After 50 000 km, I Can confirm that's the best car I ever owned by far!
