Maybe old news to some of you, this is on Toyota's site: Is Entune® App Suite now free of charge? Will the service require any activation or recurring fees? Entune® App Suite service is now included into the price of those vehicles equipped with Entune® App Suite. There is no activation fee or monthly recurring fee required for Entune® App Suite. Does it mean the data service, via XM, for traffic, weather, fuel prices etc, will now be free forever too???
In case you didn't know, your Entune equipped car only comes with a 2 or 3 year subscription to the (useless IMO) service. Got this email from Toyota today: Entune App Suite Service Is Now Subscription-Free! Dear [me], We hope you are enjoying your Toyota and your Toyota Entune® App Suite service. Entune App Suite was designed to make your driving experience more enjoyable by providing in-vehicle access to popular mobile applications like BingTM, Pandora® and iHeartRadio. Be assured, your service will not be affected. Kind of reminds me of a passage from Huckleberry Finn where Huck was describing a religious service... "it was free... and it was worth it!"
Got the same email. The part I keyed in on was: See below for the complimentary and subscription services available on your Toyota: Complimentary Services Toyota Entune App Suite: BingTM iHeartRadio MovieTickets.com OpenTable® Pandora® Paid Subscription Toyota Entune Data Services: Fuel Prices Sports Stocks Traffic Weather Since you must use a smartphone to use entune so in assuming no one at Toyota has heard of Waze, espn.com, finance.yahoo.com, or weather.com.
On this thread I copied a segment from the email I received which clarify your question. Entune is now complimentary
Hmm. It is nice to have traffic integrated with the Nav, and for the Nav to warn me about severe weather nearby.
I am still a little confused. On my HDD unit, the data is delivered by XM. Do some units get traffic data via the cellular link?
Mine does. 2013 with the small screen (I'm not sure if I'm a HDD or not). If I try traffic with my phone's bluetooth disabled, it says unable to connect to smartphone. However, I'm firmly in the Waze/Googlemaps camp for NAV.
For the Entune in the Base PiP, what's new is free? We can get the Navigation traffic without the use of smartphone data plan?
I didn't receive either an email or letter yet about the "complimentary" entune, but from reading the threads, I signed up.
You didn't receive an email because you weren't signed up. I think they went out the people already registered.
