Bought on Friday, no CC, combined driving including the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Distance: 107 miles / mpg: 67. The engine is far from being broken in, also, I sat in the car for a hour with the AC on and the engine cycling on/off every 5 minutes. I believe these stats beat anything my 2005 could do. Or what the PIP can do. ( Excluding. EV from outlet charging )
It may be more broken in than you think, with all that mountain driving and letting it run for an hour with A/C on........
Running the AC in the accessory mode did not hurt it at all, it cycled on and off in a regular manner all the time maintaining about two bars. That alone is a tremendous improvement over the Gen 2 and 3. Also if you do not have a Prius C you know not whereof you speak. Also, I spoke of the foothills, not Mountain driving, although I have no doubt that the car can handle mountains too.
. Hello Bisco, You do wander around a bit, YES, weight must be a big factor, it seems to regenerate better, the thing I discussed with the AC, one dare not do in a Gen 2 or 3. It was over 100 degrees and I felt like being a comfortable 78 studying my owners manual and resetting the #s because the dealer did not do it. Now to handle various 30-60 mile excursions the C does the trick and I can save the PIP for all electric.
Tesla probably won't be putting out their own cars in 10-years....they'll most likely excel with designing their platform for other manufacturers (as they do today). While they have made out well this past year, their cars are too darn difficult to build and time consuming. Not to mention that software changes almost weekly in some cases and they can't pre-build some of their parts based on technology advances. I see at least 3-5 a day here in the Silcon Valley....dime a dozen, but they do look bad nice person. I have an older home so I'd have to have the electrical just to have any type of electric car, lol. I'll stick to my baby steps and highly enjoy what I have for the next 5-years or so.
When my wife shops and I'm waiting in the car if required I leave my gen 2 on ready with the A/C on. All it does is drop the FE a bit! These C's have my attention as well! H
I'd never leave a car A/C on for more than 5 minutes if the car was parked. Might not hurt the engine, but it will hurt the air conditioner because nothing is running over the compressor.
There is at least 1 fan to push air over the condensor and the "compressor". You know what makes all Prius brilliant? Toyota do!!
You will have to translate that into English for me. You mean like a field of Joggers " running over " the hood! Excuse me, Bonnet. I believe that in all the Prii, one can run the AC safely, and the engine will cycle on/off periodically to adjust for the AC load, IN READY. However in the C, I was able to go into the first position with the key and run the AC and have the engine cycle to keep the charge at a nominal level. The car appeared to be in Accesory mode. I will have to look closer and make sure that is correct. Cheers.
