OK so... Talk about from one extreme to another... I just traded my Jeep Commander 5.7L in for a 2013 Prius four and I could not be more satisfied with my decision! I think this car is awesome. Here's the back story... My jeep was in the shop because it was rear ended. I asked fur a Prius as a rental so I could save some gas while it was being fixed. The rental was supposed to be for a week, but After about 3 days I was in love with it! The 4th day I ended up trading in my jeep (which was still in the shop at the dealer) for a new Prius... 51/48 beats 13/18 all day. Don't miss my jeep at all...

Cool. What was your motivation for buying the Jeep in the first place? I'm not being mean, it's just that as you say, that's a big jump, so I was curious.

I have always owned a Jeep, never a had a small car, I wanted an SUV with a good towing capacity and that 340HP Hemi Jeep fit the bill, it looked and sounded like a champ with the perfect amount of chrome on that dark green and the Flow-master exhaust! Now... my cargo capacity needs are greater than my towing capacity and show off needs and that's where the Prius wins... I actually helped a friend move a clothes dryer (standard American size) with the rental Prius..... I was shocked to see it actually fit!!! The back hatch almost closed.. I wish I could have taken a picture of that...

Not working for the gas pump works when the trade off is for a fantastic car like the Prius - I did the same sort of trade - a car that got 18 mpg on premium gas with a daily 126 mile commute...to the Prius, no regrets and still digging my Prius after almost a year now (and 22K miles).

Welcome to the family. I went from a 4runner to a Prius and it seems there is just as much cargo space.

Now sign up on Fuelly. I did the samething. Rented a Prius for a weekend trip. Was going to buy a Passat TDI to replace my Jetta TDI. Like you fell in love with the car. Bought one the next week.

    " Prius Story!
    2006 Toyota Prius
    [IMG]
    Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - October 14, 2013
Enjoli and Bill Jackson and their 2006 Toyota Prius II heading for another 100,000 miles or more.
In late 2005, Bill Jackson decided the full sized van was consuming too much of the family’s finances in fuel. So what did he do? Looked for the most fuel efficient 5-passenger automobile available in the US. That being at the time the second Generation Toyota Prius and its 55 mpgUS combined rating. This was lowered to 46 mpgUS combined with the advent of the new 2008 EPA test cycles but still. Nothing other than a small 2-seat coupe from Honda could even come close.
The Prius purchase was not completed without controversy however as Enjoli did not want to let go of the full size van. In her words, “The van gave birth to an egg looking Prius baby” and she was not entirely happy about the idea.
Within a few weeks of ownership, it was a warm 100 degree day in southern California. She unknowingly got out of the Prius and left it fully booted up with its A/C set for a very comfortable cabin. Sure the car was beeping at her while she was walking away but it did not dawn on her that “her” car was beeping. About 9 hours later, she came back to the Prius, opened the door and what should have been a blast of hot air was a woosh of cool air. The car was booted up and ran periodically for a full 9 hours while keeping the cabin cool. Her first call was to Bill wondering if the Prius had overheated from sitting idling all day and if she needed to take it to the dealer. Given the way the Prius operates, it was idling only a few minutes every hour and for the lack of a better description, this was no big deal.
Within a month, she not only changed her mind about Prius ownership, she was wearing her Prius colors proudly. Namely the lack of visits to the fuel pump which over the next 7-years saved more than the cost of the Prius itself over the van that she had previously loved.

257,000 plus miles and no indication of quitting any time soon.
    Which brings us to today
At church earlier today, Enjoli was telling me how she and Marian always park their Prius’ next to one another and was glad to see I had purchased a third gen PHEV for Marian. In doing so, her husband Bill was providing detail on the mileage, low fuel costs, tire changes, and maintenance. Over the course of 257,000 miles it turns out the Jacksons have spent a grand total of just $3,000 for all the maintenance and repairs. A figure significantly lower than the previous three vehicles they had taken to 200,000 miles.
Enjoli and Bill Jackson’s story is but one of millions with similar change of heart and unexpected beneficial outcomes.
    The Future

Quote: "Expectations have continued to change. Nowadays, many people aren’t even interested in a car unless it gets more than 40 mpg.”

Between now and the end of 2015, Toyota plans to introduce 15 new or redesigned hybrid vehicles globally. The new hybrid powertrains will deliver significantly improved fuel economy in a more compact package that is lighter in weight and lower in cost. The next generation of powertrains will reflect significant advances in battery, electric motor and gas engine technologies that are part of Toyota’s larger strategy towards the electrification of the automobile through hybrid, battery electric and fuel cell technologies."

I had a Jeep Commander too. Great vehicle, but gas mileage was abysmal. While Jeep was fairly comfortable, I think my Prius four is way more comfortable. I ended up getting a Prius after a good experience with a Prius rental. In the 9000 miles that I've had the car, Im getting 53 mpg.

I went from that extreme to this as well. I just traded in my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD for my Prius. My only disappointment is the drivers seat. It has zero lumbar support and the angle makes it so there is pressure applied to my hips. Currently, I'm working with addressing this concern with Toyota Corporate. Sad... to have spent 28K and feel like i'm headed for hip replacement.

In the interim the Healthy Back a Store has a good selection of Auto Lumbar devices. This is one.

Welcome. Hope things keep going good for you and you are still saving lots of gas for years to some. I came from gas hogs to the prius also. So far I have saved about 2010 gallons of gas, or about $7,000 bucks. I like the Prius...

The seats in the "Four" and "Five" are a big improvement, the adjustable lumbar & seat angle did the trick for me. The Two/Three seats definitely have insufficient lumbar support. Perhaps there's an opportunity to move up?
