The terminals are DIN top term pencil post. Thats the only option. They wont fit? and yes the store online says it has a code for 15% off $50 not sure if that is just for the first 50 or the entire sale. I have not been well, havent worked in 3 years, and am stressed I can tell you.

I went back to the car and it is almost totally dead now. shift symbol on dash and thats about all. I could lock the doors with the key out of the fob but thats it.

Oh my! This is exactly the same battery! 170 versus 219! Plus free shipping. This one is a winner for sure.

It is quite possible you have left the dome light or trunk light on in the car, and this is what has discharged your battery. If that is the situation charging the battery may well be a short term fix if you have or can borrow a charger. At five years old the battery will be near the end of it's life, but this would buy you some time.

The JIS posts are thinner than the usual SAE posts, but both the Exide and the Optima have the correct posts. If you already have a battery, there are conversion kits, but I still needs to be AGM and externally vented. And the Prius battery is 'polarity reversed' from US standard. (the negative post is where the postive post usually is. So do not try to make some other battery work, just don't.

The battery you want (from any vendor) shold be size S46B24R.

Din terminals are too large so you would have the added complication of buying and altering the terminals. The battery used must have JIS posts to make for an easy strait forward fit.

I think this means the battery will fit perfectly right out of the box. Tomorrow I will order or call them and order. Thank you so much for the help so far. $170 plus money for a few tools is still a lot on a surprise but beats the dealer prices for sure and is $50 less for the same battery locally.

If you have a camera take pictures at the start and as you go along. If you have a problem remembering how thing went you have pictures to look at.
Changing the battery is really not difficult and once you have accomplished this task it will give you confidence to do other jobs in the future. (Changing cabin air filter and engine filter to start. No tools needed) Let us know how you get on.

I will look when I can try to jump the car. its backed in up against the garage so I cant use my electric battery charger as I dont have an extension cord. and of course cant get to the battery right now because the hatch is dead. :)
My dog still loves me anyway!

You can charge it from under the hood. Remove the fuse box cover and you will see a red plastic cover, lift this and attach the red positive battery charger clamp on the nut and bolt under the cover, fasten the negative lead to any clean engine bolt. This will charge the battery, and allow you to open the hatch and start the car.

OKay! I have ordered the optima and it does come with the correct posts. I should have it tuesday. I had my car jumped and after 5 minutes sitting it started but with the red triangle and park button blinking and parking message on the MFD. I let it run and kept some rpm up for 20 minutes and then shut it down.

The red triangle is gone and no blinking button and no mfd message! It starts right up like it used to! I am still going to swap out for the optima of course. I dont know if I can trust this battery to go anywhere tho. Be just my luck.

I wonder if this is normal even for a going bad battery?

I did the display test on the car. The static voltage on the battery is 13.7v. Push button again on dash to go to load and voltage drops to 11.7. push the brakes and it goes to 11.4. I guess that pretty much confirms what you guys were saying.

Anyway I ordered the Optima and will report back when it get here if I have any problems. Thanks so much guys for being there for me!

Hi I had this problem, and I just used my winter battery maintainer to charge up my 12v .

    That fixed it!

Also, for the guys with this problem originally, do you only drive your Prius short distances? I do I only log 5km a day.

Does not give the 12v a chance to recharge at all!

    Thanks;;
