I saw a 2010 Prius V hanging around in a local dealer's website since June. The price was dropped from $18.5k to $17.1k over the course.

It's mislabelled as a 2010 Prius II but from the photos it's actually a Prius V with Advanced Technology Package. And it's certified! From CARFAX it was first sold at about 5700 miles to the first owner. Probably a dealer demo? Any potential hidden problem?

For about $17k isn't it ridiculous to sell a 2010 Prius V with ATP and 70k miles? The KBB price is about $21k even taking account of the high mileage! Too bad I have already brought a III with solar roof but we needed a car.

    Edit: removed link.

I'm currently looking for a Gen. III, and I am finding that dealers will mislabel or put the wrong picture on a listing.

I bought my Prius3 at a Jaguar\Landrover and they had it priced as a base. A 2012, with navigation, solar sunroof, and leather seats and backup camera with 30, 000 miles for 19, 500. Sometimes dealers other than Toyota dealers don't know what they have.

But that is a certified pre-owned from a Toyota dealer!

My puzzle is, why the first owner sell it in 2.5 years? If it's really fully loaded and priced so low, why does it not sell for 3 months now?

It's NY, so I think we got 150k on battery. I got my Prius at 67k.

    I do not know.
I think you are correct that NY is full CARB. But you have to consider if the car was orig purchased in NY and all that to still qualify for CARB warranty. Some folks here say Toyota is very hard on this issue. FORD warranty says if HEV vehicle is CARB certified and you are in CARB state, then HV batt is covered. Folks here say Toyota is more strict and looks to see if entire life of car is in CARB states.

The other thing I am hearing in the news, is new cars that were flooded out in Sandy can be legally sold without disclosing the car was under water for 2 weeks. Your car predates Sandy but I suspect one used car I bought may have been in a flood.

Can a salvage title be Toyota certified pre-owned and not shown in CARFAX?

Can't see a Toyota dealer selling a salvage title car.... they would most likely send it to the auctions.

No way they would retail a car out their dealership with a salvage title. That's what you would expect from a tote the note car lot.

You may be right. I can't see Toyota selling a Salvage without identifying same. Carfax will pick up a salvage. Note: the insurance carriers are supposed to registered any vehicle totalled out/(Hurricane Katrina/Sandy types) as " Salvaged! or rebuilt ". But a few insurance Co's haven't done it for whatever reason, and it slips through the cracks. (rare, but it happens.) Not all Autocheck Co's will pick it up, but Carfax will. Be careful out there. I always get the vin., and have a local Toyota dealer run the numbers for me.

I know the car you are talking about. It is for sale in Middle Island. Dark blue/grey interior V with ATP. I drove to see that car and I knew it would be too good to be true. Absolute pig. Not worth the 17,111 asking price. I even passed on it at the $14,900 they dropped it to for me in an attempt to move it. If it's too good to be true.....

Both. The pictures are edited in a manner disguising the severe damage and cracks to the front spoiler. They have a border on the photos that conceal the damage. The car has been on the lot since May but still has dried coffee and other sticky substances on many different surfaces. Along with the fact that the grey headliner is stained beyond repair....not even sure how that happened. The dealers explanation was that they don't "prep" cars until they have found a buyer. I was so disgusted that I didn't even want to see the car any longer....upon test driving the car it also drove like crap...sever issues with alignment and the brakes didn't feel right. The regen braking was making a loud whining noise unlike any prius that I have driven previously. Steer clear.
