I found a nice database for Prius info http://www.selidori.com/tech/prius/DOC/
But it only has 2004, 2006 and 2010 documents. (Click anything with *ENG* behind it and you should be alright ;))
So would all 2006 documents also be valid for my 2009 (Gen II)? Or have there been other changes?

Also, it has huge info, but I have not found the pinout to the connectors... Just a few pins on the connector indeed used in my MFD ("M13"). But nothing (so far found) on the pins of the connector next to it ("M14" and "M15").

My main problem is that I am reading 100's of pages on all kind of matters (also on Tesla and my Volvo V70 issues...) and I fail to properly archive the ones I need.
There's Lockpick devices  that seem to give you some control, and can-view, but it all turns to a mush in my brain. Too much info and it gets scrambled. Anyone know this problem? There's tons of info on here, that's why I'm spending a lot of time on here :D, but many times the discussions skip a few steps too much for me as a Prius Virgin who has e.g. no clue to the differences between modelyears and what the hardware differences may be between with/without navigation

Here's some detailed info on a (presumably) early Prius with another MFD to mine: Reverse video
(Both connector setups ("three connector type MFD" and "four connector type MFD" are shown in this PDF, page AV33 and AV34))
I'll start by shorting gray to pink and see if my display shows a black-image. This would indicate it indeed is switching to it's video-input. If this happens, we will at least be one step further. If only we could get someone with a reverse camera to open up their 2008/9 model to show what extra pins they have hooked up :D I know the display is supposed to be more high tech, but I would think they have the electronics for converting a simple video-signal to the new high-tech format onboard in the MFD, not some loose box floating around somewhere. Or is the video-camera totally different on 2006+ models?

AAARRRGGGHHH doing my head in. Sorry about the long text without adding much new info...

FYI: I was looking into similar details to "upgrade" my MFD (see my other post), recently and learned the following:

M13 is the main connection to the standard car devices, AVC-Lan for radio stuff, parking brake, power to the MFD etc.

***M13 seems to differ in a few pins between 2004-5 model and newer

M14 is for Nav and has RGB signals voice/mic for bluetooth etc. Again there seems to be 2 versions 28 pin on older and 40 pin on newer MFDs

M15 is the 6 pin connector and I think I saw it also has an AVC-lan connection for auxiliary equipment (I should double check this)

I could post pinouts if you want, but it would take me a bit to assemble all the info.

On a similar note: Can Someone post or point me to the part numbers/features of the various MFD's (I have found 4 different ones so far) - just trying to sort out the details.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Thanks for updating your diagrams! It really sucked to have them disappear from the thread.

I'm planning to do the same in my car (3rd gen). I just wanted to confirm the following points:

    1) Video input via rear cam input (AUX video) works even if the VSS override is not enabled.
    2) Audio for the AUX video works via the factory stereo plug connectors.
    3) Did you use shielded RCA video cables or regular, run of the mill, RCA video cables?

    Thanks.

    No problem!

    1) Yes, it will work as you drive. Not very safe but it will work.

    2) Correct, it will work. Note that audio AUX and video AUX are not aware of one and other. You can play a CD while watching any video stream in your AUX port if you want to do that.
Once you switch your Video AUX from the rear view camera to your iPod, remember to hit AUX on your MFD and you'll be good to go with audio and video.

    3) Yes, I encourage anyone that wires video AUX to use coaxial cables especially in a car. You can solder the GND (shield) to the switch metal case and do the same with a wire that come from the car chassis. It worked well for me, I have virtually zero interferences as you can see on my Youtube video, it is crystal clear.

You need to connect the reverse 12v signal to the sixth pin bottom row from left of the right connector. Left of the purple wire. The signal is available at different places, e.g. Footwell

You need to check the schematics for this model. It shows the outs for with cam and without cam cars.
If the MFD detects a camera, it seems to need to see both vid dignal and a load, and REV signal is resent and the rest of the wires connect in the "with cam" pinout fashion, it should work.

this is from the german priuswiki.de
it also shows were to get the REV signal from in european non-executive non-navigation cars.
the pdf wiring manual contains a section on connector pinout. just search for the connector number.
The pinout is shown looking the front side, not the back end with the wires.
The numbers are the connector pin numbers, the letters indicate the wire color.
if your car did not come from the factory with a camera, the two cable from the hatch to the MFD are not in the car.
you will find that some part of the MFD pinout shows two numbers. one is for cars set-up for a cam and the other for non-cam cars. Mine did not have a cam, but the pinout was set-up for a cam.
Adding a wireless receiver and feeding ot from pin 29 and 30 plus adding the REV signal worked for me.

    Which? "the two cable"

Does pin 29 and 30 work as power to the cam?

    And what is this connector?

The wiring from the hatch to the MFD has two sections with three connectors as you can see from the schematic.

Yes, these pins power the camera or receiver in my case.
The transmitter is powered from a 12v line of the rear wiper module.
I have not checked what the connector you showed does.

Is the 12V on the gray wire always ON or only ON in ACC or IG-ON or READY mode? Thanks!

Now that you made it work, could you clarify the pins 27 ~ 30 which ones are video signal and which ones are power to the camera? Thanks!
