you could replace middle part on original with straight pipe...[perhaps household pipe] for same effect....unless of course it's purely for pimpimg

I believe Cusco STB is aluminum and has only the end plates in Cusco blue. Why don't you get the Tanabe STB powdercoated in blue by a local shop? Either way, it'll look much better than the mismatched combo.

 

Samco is a great company that does tons of silicone piping for all types of vehicles. When I had my shop we used them extensively for forced induction applications. That piece is made to hold some boost in case anyone gets adventurous... I think the real gain, if any, will be had in swapping out the entire system for a smooth flow pipe that ducts in outside air. One day I will tackle that project...

 

I don't think so as the Prius uses an Atkinson cycle engine which requires preheated air. That's why the Injen short ram intake is technically a hot air intake rather than CAI. You'd want to do a mod that sucks in more hot air.

 

Agreed. A warm air intake will theoretically improve efficiency, but a cai should still result in improved performance.
I think it is safe to assume that there are owners who would give up some mpg for an increase in power. I personally would rather see an increase in both, but have not found a solution to that yet.

 

So I looked at the stock set up and it seems as Toyota tried to grab some cold air after all. The snorkel extends to behind the headlight. If they were going for warm air it would have stopped sooner. Without something to test it is all speculation anyway.

 

This is not an INDUCTION UPGRADE.

It is a style upgrade. And are you really spending that kind of money for colors under your hood?

Those box chambers are there for acoustic dampening.

4 cylinder engines can have an intake 'howl' at certain RPM's.

If you want more noise from your car you could just cut off the muffler.

It’ll be a very nice addition to your ride.. I'm sure you'll love it.

 

You would see a bigger performance gain from taking a good laxative than you ever will from this thing.
