Before I got the 5000 tune up I could count on 12 miles electric if I was careful. Now after the tune up gas engine comes on all the time hardly any total electric miles. Shall I call the dealer?

The car isn't behaving as it should. Take it to the dealer and tell him your symptoms.

yes, take it to the dealer. it makes no sense unless you are doing something wrong. but all they do is change the oil and rotate the tyres. no idea what is causing your ice to fire. r u in ev mode?

At just the 5k trip they don't even change your oil yet, just rotate tires and fill windshield fluid.

12 miles on electric? Do you have a plug in prius?
Not sure if its the same on the PIP but in the regular prius, v and c, the battery has an intake vent under the rear seat to suck in air to cool the big battery. Check this vent, make sure you(or mechanic) didn't by chance move something around in the back seat and block it off, this will cause the battery to get too hot and so the gas engine will run all the time.

good point, the pip has two vents. also, i didn't even notice his sig says 2010. if he's getting 12 miles ev on that, that's some serious hypermiling! and if he just hit 5,000 miles, he must only drive on sundays.:)

Imagine it at the dealers, sitting in aux while it's poked and prodded, so the 12 get's low on charge, 65% or so, enough to start the car, but, now it requires more ice to try to top it up.
A few hours with a trickle charger might be in order.
