2010 vs 2012 Prius

I just traded in my 2005 sti for a 2012 Prius plug in. If you spend the majority of your time on the freeway you might consider a plugin for HOV sticker.

 

i prefer the '12 only cause the 10's had some squeaks and rattles that were (mostly) rectified. and you need a cold weather test drive on a bumpy road to find out.

I know the feeling i still miss my sti. Only thing that makes me happy is going 600 miles on the first full tank and cost of a full tank being $35. No boost no fun.

 

If I had it to do over again, I would have got the 2012 Four or above for the power driver's seat. In fact, I may need to wait a year or so and try to to do a sell of my car and maybe purchase a used '12 Four or Five. I'm getting by in mine, but there are issues.

I had a rattle that would come and go under light acceleration. Took two tries at dealer, but they nixed it. Was most likely in hood latch area. Say most likely because they treated a couple different areas. It's been gone for about 4 months.

 

This is a common feeling. I moved from an 2005 Outback XT (250hp turbo) to a 2011 Prius Five (RIP, was totaled last month when I was rear ended). Before buying the Prius, I test drove and loved the 2011 RAV4 V6, but decided to be sensible. I have a horrible commute to work, so my car spends a lot of time idling (my average speed per tank is about 23mph.

It all comes down to whether you're ready to make sacrifices in life for pure common sense. It's similar to if you're ready to give up eating what you like for the sake of weight loss and good health. For me, I had to come to terms with the fact that I am willing to give up all semblance of driving pleasure for MPGs. To be honest, as long as I'm not a gross polluter, being green just to make a statement was not a high priority.

For me, the most disconcerting aspect of the Prius was losing speed on the highway every time there's a slight incline. I thought modern cars had moved way past this. More unappealing was the sound of the engine when you need to step on the gas to maintain the speed you just lost.

Evidently, I was not ready, since I've replaced my Prius with an Acura TL SH-AWD. I did testdrive a 2013 Camry Hybrid before buying the Acura, though.

I loved the Prius in its own way, but the feeling was completely devoid of any emotion or passion. It's like owning a really nice pair of socks or a quality toothbrush, which is just fine for some people.

My wife just got a '13 C MAX Energi. I found it to be a great compromise of features switching from an '08 BMW 328i. She has about a 20 mi commute and got almost 1000 mi. on her first tank with charging about once a day over night.

2012 Prius 4, that's what I have Consumer Reports gave the 2010 some black marks go with the 2012..............

 

That's what the warranty is for. If the warranty's gone... oops.

 

I don't think it is as bad as you might think. In my experience if you push further on the gas pedal you can maintain a good speed up a mountain. (But somehow I am in the Prius forum, not the Prius v forum. It should be better on the Prius as it is smaller and lighter.) Unfortunately this is accompanied by an uncomfortably loud sound from the engine as it sounds like it is working hard for it.

 

Speed loss is pretty bad imo unless your maintaining a fast speed if not your indicator will be close to max. I might try power next time I go up a hill on my weekly commute.
