Shark Fin Antenna

You may not be getting many responses because this is considered such an easily searched topic. Simply put "Shark Fin" in the search box, and every post that has "Shark Fin" in it will appear. You'll get your answers and then some.

I want a Shark Fin...but I'm always just too lazy to actually order one. But I personally think they look a lot better. From what I've read most people claim to just about break even on reception, and/or the degradation is minimal and pretty acceptable.

Haven't read many or any posts where someone had a quality Shark Fin, but was so unhappy with reception they switched back. Even if a few people admit to a slight reduction in reception quality.

 

Some members claim that the beat sonic has a slight edge in reception quality in weak area, but it's a little on the bulky side compared to VG sold on the PC Shop.

If you have the solar roof, VG is the only one that makes a SR-compatible version.

 

I installed the shark fin antenna from Visual Garage as I have the solar panel. No degradation on reception that I have noticed at all. And it looks great.

 

Visual Garage's website says they are updating it, and the new one will launch on July 1'st. Hopefully their products and ship times are better than their time estimates

I'd have liked to check out the products, but until they update the site, there's nothing to see. Too bad.

If I'll do a search? Don't see how that has anything to do with viewing the products on the website? Does the search show current prices from them? Doubtful.

 

I thought you can still purchase them through the PC Shop?

 

When I bought mine last year it was slightly cheaper through the PC Shop.

 

True, Danny indicated that VG would raise the price after May 31st. Not too bad considering that the price has been roughly the same for the past 7 or 8 years. Still cheaper compared to beat sonic.

Installed my shark fin a couple of days ago. No change in reception. So I do recommend it.

 

Any antenna, or lack there of, shouldn't have an effect on radio quality as long as you are in a well covered area.

On my old car, and recently on my prius, I've taken out the antenna and replaced it with a small black rounded screw. Just for looks...

The only times I have reception issues is when I go through a tunnel or go through the Mountains (winding road through valleys). It limits the range. Obviously the quality is effected by removing the antenna, but between bad head units, speakers, road noise, and the general quality of broadcasts the difference is almost not noticeable.

 

Just removing the antenna makes it look like a shark fin. 2 second mod, completely reversible, and best of all, it's free.

 

I have had the shark fin antenna for over a year now & absolutely no problems here. I have the VG from prius shop btw.

 

I'd like to get the VG version 2 sharkfin. It was supposed to be available by July 1. Any updates on when we might be ablet to get ahold of one of these in the Prius Shop?

 

Where did you hear there'll be a new version of the VG shark fin? The current VG shark fin for the Prius is a VG Mark II. All I'm seeing for July 1st is supposed to be a new website and a price increase, but it appears you can still order it through the PC Shop.

 

Ok good to know. The Prius Shop didn't indicate it was the V2 so I assumed it would be the V1. I definitely like the VG fin better than the Beatsonic one.

 

Sure beats the $85 !!! I like the look but NEVER going to pay $85 for something like a $10 item.
