So my better half borrowed my Prius c today to take care of some paperwork for college, and now I get to learn how expensive it is to get the paint redone and the metalwork straightened out. There's a nice gash and dent where the rear passenger door meets the quarter-panel, which is also dinged. The most this will out-of-pocket my is my deductable, but still- ouch
How much does it cost to fix a paint scratch? If it's just a patch job then I'm curious as well, since I had metal scrape inside around the rear window and it scraped the paint off.
It's more than a paint scratch; the metal is dented on the door and quarter-panel. Once I have some estimates, I'll share.
The "ouch" comes when you go to trade in your car and the sales man asks if your car has ever been in an accident. If you use your insurance deductible there will be a record.
Hello again, and thanks for the commiserations. Pray tell, is this what it sounds like it is? Folks asked for pictures: Nexus 4 ? 2
Bummer. 2 weeks after buying my Pri C, I came out to the parking lot at school to find that someone with a nice large hitch had decided to back into my rear bumper. $600 estimate later, I vouched for a bumper sticker to cover it! It sucks to have that happen. I'm sorry Ever since then I almost don't care about my paint job anymore.. Would be different if I could afford to have it fixed. At least I had a nice new car for 2 weeks!
It's exactly what it sounds like. If you go through the insurance company, the resale will take a hit. To compensate for this, the insurance company gives a diminished value check. But you have to ask for it, they won't just freely give this, usually.
Well, I just had the adjuster finish looking at the damage. Looks like it'll be waaaay past the deductible to get my car patched back up, to the tune of $1,400 or so, assuming there's no damage inside the door. So, deductible it is. Interestingly, when the agent looked up the VIN of my car, it came up as a Prius c IV; not a Prius c III, which it actually is.
There's no way I would pay that much for a scratch or scrape like that. (All the pollen films were the first thing that made the "new paint" feeling fade away, fast...)
