Very close to buying a used 2012 PiP Advanced ... Need opinion

    First time poster here.

    I read through tons of posts on the value delta between basic and advanced.

    This is decision time ...

    - I found a used 2012 PiP Advanced with 11,000 mile at a Toyota dealership. It is certified. They are asking 27K (All Inclusive). Is this a good price?

    - are the quality of the interior components any better than on the basic version (apart from the leather-like seats).

    welcome to p/c and yes!:) quality of interior is the same, but you get electric seat, 7" nav, etc. that's an incredible price man, all the best!(y)

    :) Sounds good. Used PIP prices are dropping as we speak. PIP Advance, 11,000 miles. If there's no history of damage, major repairs etc., should be a keeper. I like the extras on the Advance, and in your case, great deal, unless you want bare bones and pay less. I paid more, but less than MSRP , to help the struggling world economy.:D

    It's a one-owner vehicle from a Toyota dealership and comes certified.

    That's a fantastic price.

    I'd jump on that puppy, but certainly check it out like any other used vehicle, take it for an EV only test ride and see what the range is, and check the various MFD displays to see what is there as long as dealer has not reset. It should come with 3 years of ToyotaCare maintenance (hope it's transferrable). and should have had the 5k and 10k maintenance done already too.

    And make sure you can register the vehicle under your name with the Entune app.

    My PIP-base just hit 12k miles and is still like brand new- so the one you're interested in should look/feel like a new car too!

    The "Advanced" model has some nice perks- especially the LED headlights, I had them in my 2012 Five before I traded it in for the pip. They're the feature I miss most from the Five. The Toyota LED headlights are better than any HID system out there.

    Thanks for the tips. I called Toyota and provided the VIN. Everything is transferable. Basically, it stays with the car.

    You mean ... Find out MPG history.

    I just recently saw a 2012 Advanced at my local dealership for $27k as well only had 2k miles but I don't think that was the "all inclusive" price. I asked the sales guy what it would take to swap out of my Base model and upgrade trying to stay near my current monthly payment. He couldn't come close. I figured as much. I'm still holding out for the 2015 model!!

    This is all inclusive price. $27400 including tax and tags.

    I am scheduled to pick it up on Tuesday. There is still a a lingering doubt in my mind about whether the soon to be coming deluge of similar vehicles (with longer EV range) will cause a significant price slump. Thoughts?

    well, your getting a 40k car for 27,5. i paid 32k for the base. i'd much rather be in your position than mine.:eek: but who knows what the future will hold? you can buy a new volt for the same money and get 40 miles of ev, but it's not a prius in size or hv performance. and only time will tell about reliability. same with any new car that comes down the road unless it's from toyota.

    EVs now are like computers or smartphones. Whatever you buy, in a relatively short time there will be something better available.

    If you can accept that, go ahead. It seems like a good value.

    I bought a PiP a year and a half ago, figuring it would lose its value pretty quickly but prepared to hold it two or three years and then get something much better, hopefully from Toyota.

    What I probably should have done was lease it, and then pay off the lease. That way the dealer shares some of the depreciation risk.

    Somewhat true. Although the car market isn't near as quick and nimble as the smartphone market. R&D takes many times longer on a car than smartphone.
