Yes this is the inevitable truth :(

I think it would be in the best interest of Toyota to clarify some of the open questions we have about Gen 4 prius and NS4. Of course I too like the waiting game, browsing the web every day for news but it would be nice to have some idea about what to expect. If you think about it, everything that's been spoken about, discussed and debated on are based on pure speculation and the so called Toyota engineer leaking information. In the mean time we see Honda coming to grips with their hybrid offerings and giving away proper hints on upcoming models.

Very nice, smooth lines. I'd buy one or two.

What to say about past Accord Hybrid? Was offered from 05 to 2007 as an IMA hybrid. Sold terribly. Takes Honda 7 more model years to put out a new one. I like Hondas no doubt and part of that goes back to their motorcycles and riding. 1st and 2nd motorcycles were both Hondas. Great bikes with great engines.

I've seen Toyota press release stating NS4 was to become a dedicated plug-in hybrid separate from the Prius family.

My opinion on NS4, although it looks cool and sleek and all, the greenhouse doesn't seem it could be very roomy and offer a good view from inside. Price to pay for that uber-sleek look.

Also, NS4 appears to have a very stubby front end. Do people think much about their safety in a front end collision?

Ok, we're talking about riding motorcycles and concerned about safety in a front end collision in the same post!

Are you sure? I always meet people driving Honda with no respect to others. Never signal to ask for merge or cut in front. Just do. We usually keep space in front and those Honda driver will take advantage of me. Shopping lanes all the time. Never have patient to follow cars. Seldom follow the rules of game. Always thinking they are the best driver driving the best car. No. They just know how to take advantage.

If even the company is saying it is now up in the air you can probably take that to mean that it most likely won't get made. Just my opinion.

Vast majority of people don't want a car that looks like NS4. They want Camrys, Accords, Altimas, Civics, Corollas, Fusions, Focus, Sonata, Optimas, Malibus, Cruze, etc.... that's what sells in record numbers every month in US.

I don't want to be in a car that I think would be hard to see out of (NS4).

What evidence do you have in support of this claim? Did you (or someone else) conduct a survey ? I really don't mind when people speak their mind out but making personal opinion sound like established fact is totally unacceptable.

BTW: Some would consider the Toyota Prius G3, to be a car within limited all-round visibility and I tend to agree with this view but that didn't stop it becoming the 3rd best selling car in the world.

We see out of liftbacks, hatchbacks, 4-door coupe styles and SUVs everyday. Take a look out of this BMW X6; Rear Visibility-X6 - XBimmers.com | BMW X6 Forum X5 Forum
I would like to see the survey of this "vast majority of people" if you have it, but you will be able to see out.

Not going to speak for global sales, but here's what US buys for passenger cars. About same very month. Only car I know of like NS4 front end is Prius.

I'll wager they sell a few hundred a month of these plug-in hybrids at $40k. I think those qualify as 'mail slot' windows.

I don't think Toyota will be just after selling numbers with Hybrids -at least not yet. They have the Corollas Camrys and Avensis for that.

And yes, outside visibility on the NS4 would be slightly less than-normal but the designers have done a fantastic job of concealing the elevated internals at the back due to hybrid battery.

Actually I would bet if the NS4 was available today alongside the regular Gen 3 Prius, both cars with the exact same technology, it would out sell the Prius. On the other hand, let's say it doesn't sell as well as the Prius, Toyota will still consider it a win as they managed to sell a hybrid car to a customer who didn't quite like the Prius.

    Now when can I pre-order a NS4 :)
