Why in the Hell didnt Toyota put Air Vents in the Back ????????????

If you don't have the climate vents set properly then it won't work. In my GenII the default when I turn the HVAC on is upper vents only. If I want upper and feet, I have to go to the climate screen and select it. The under seat vents won't blow anything if you don't have the feet option selected.

We get hot here too, and no problems in the Prius. I find putting the AC on full and floor vent only with non-recirculating is best for cooling the whole car. The AC shoots to the back for people there and you get some as it cools down, but you also get some air flow that gets through the vents from the outside so you get a little breeze. Completely different strategy than if it is just 1 passenger.

 

There are two vents in the back. They are to the side of the spare tyre compartment and behind the 12 volt battery. The battery cooling fan depends on these to evacuate the hot air from the HV battery. They are in the same place as on most modern vehicles and vent under the rear bumper.

 

just to make sure, you know there are flow controls in the vents themselves , right? shut them down some and more air will be diverted to the center vents. also make sure you are in recirc.

if that fails, it is currently 53 and mostly cloudy here in anchorage.

 

Do yourself a favour: read the responses.

 

You have two rather large vents in the center of the dash. It's not rocket surgery to aim those vents to blow straight to the back seat, or maybe it is....

It gets hot here in Mississippi, too, and the first thing I ask my friends is if they're getting enough air back there. Never had a complaint.

 

Thanks for this tip. I have just always pointed the front vents up and facing rear. The thought of changing the mode to the floor and using the rear vents has just never crossed my mind.

I have not had this problem but once with my youngest son and his wife in the back. He is really hot-natured like his mom

 

my 88 chrysler minivan had separate vents and controls in the back. darn kids wouldn't leave it alone.

 

grandchildren complaining here too about being hot

 

My CMax has rear passenger vents with controls. They pass through the center arm rest tunnel which can also keep a drink chilled in it. Nice touch.

 

Or cool down your hot cup of coffee.

 

LOL, no it's inside the compartment not the outside cupholders (where I keep my cup o' joe).

But now that you mention it, I guess it would heat too if you select the vent option along with the usual floor routing for heat.

Per: bisco's post.... maybe if you close the front vents, more will be diverted to the rear

This will satisfy the front passengers and offer more cooling to the rear....

If you are using the Eco driving mode it will derate the AC's performance, try using Normal driving mode which is the absence of any other mode.

Presumed you were talking about extraction vents which would enable front cold air to push to the back. if the warm air can't be pushed out of the vehicle you will get hot pockets of stale air.

I've never had passengers complaining that they weren't cool enough, even on long hot trips to Sydney in 40+ degrees C.

 

Thats OK Larry, we cant all be experts.

 

Maybe someone could design a rear vent kit? We have tons of other aftermarket stuff available for the Prius

the 'lowly' Civic LX for under $20k sticker gets rear seat heater (must be for A/C too) ducts and rearview camera.

but in new one, you'd need to XLE hybrid, most of those are near or well over $30k sticker.

 

sorry but this is really stupid

you complain about the prius and compare it to a fusion ( is bigger and 1 class higher )
i would say good luck with your fusion! lots of fun...
