What about a RX450H? That should get decent 30 to 40 mpg and give you a super luxury ride Prius dominates in the mpg's and gives a nice comfortable ride but those Lexus vehicles are slick as hell I drove thru the NW Tollway construction last week and swore I wouldn't do that again. Been running I-80 into the Quad Cities and up I-35 into the Twin Cities for a more relaxing drive Seen a funnel cloud and wicked hail in Iowa last Saturday. Crazy storms this year. So my iPhone 5 fried my amplifier in the Prius. It's about a $800 fix and is not covered under warranty but they are covering it this time under good will. He says it happens when you hook up the iPhone to the car through USB. I have not used the USB a single time, I use my phone mainly for Bluetooth and have maybe listened to music once or twice since getting the car. I tell him this and he goes well its supposed to be fine if the phone is connected through Bluetooth. So now what do I do? I want something in writing that states that I can hook up the phone through Bluetooth. They ordered the amp and it should be here in a few days. He stated that its some update that the iPhone is passing into the engine system that fries the engine system. This is pretty irritating. Not only does the whole system disappoint me compared to my 2010 but it also doesn't work.
They are full of shit. You can connect any mobile device to the factory audio system. The USB port is current limited to 500ma (1/2 amp) by design so there is no frying anything. Bunch of meatheads working at that dealer. Mike Mobile on my SGH-i717
I would run from that dealer for service. I had a 2012 Prius Five and now a 2012 PIPA and hook up my iPhone 5 via USB all the time. It never fried the amp.
Oh it is getting deep. Only update the iPhone is passing onto the JBL is Entune, and cannot fry anything.
Yeah it's not the first time I had something like this happen at this dealer. My 2010 had the cold start knock and they wouldn't fix it. I had a different dealer do it. Just sucks because they are so close and convenient.
Ever try Smart Motors Toyota in Madison? They are a big Prius dealership. Might have inteligent staff there. Mike in Kentucky Mobile on my SGH-i717
I never get out to Madison. The only time I ever drive through is on my way back from Dubuque, but that is usually after 7PM on Fridays. I have a dealer that I call on that has a Toyota franchise in Muskegon, MI, I'm going to start doing my services there during my visits. I'll take my Scion to a different dealer in town as well. I really do need to stop going to these guys.
What % is that? I need to get mine done someday. Still haven't taken it out of winter storage. Mike in Kentuckiana Mobile on my SGH-i717
Got my new amp installed on Friday, left the dealership and didn't even make it 3 miles, the new amp fried. They're calling their Toyota Field Engineer over to look at the car. I hope to get in this week, it's getting very irritating driving around without a stereo.
Any evidence of a water spill inside from the previous owner? I believe the JBL amp and all its connections are under the passenger side front seat.
I'd suspect the output circuit is partially shorted, overloading the amp. Hopefully the field engineer will get it all sorted out.
