Hello all, This is my first big round trip I've made with my new PiP. I went from Lincoln, NE to the Chicago area. It was a total of about 1100 miles and I averaged about 58 mpg (computer readout). I thought this was exceptionally good considering I averaged around 67 mph while on the interstate. I also had a pretty strong cross wind for a lot of the drive and even some strong head wind for part of it. Last but not least I had about 300 lbs of cargo (550 if you include me) for half of the trip, as well as rolling hills for much of the route. This leads me to believe what others have speculated on...that the PiP does a little better at higher speeds than the regular Gen3. I would guess 1-2 mpg but maybe even a chance of 3 mpg better. The only full charge I had was what I left my house with. And I only charged 2 other times, at the same place both coming and going (both partial charges). If you are curious, I started a small business in January that goes to IKEA to pick up products for people since their shipping rates are exorbitant. So I will be making the trip to Chicago or Minneapolis (mostly Minneapolis) about once, sometimes twice a month in my PiP. Pics are below of how full I stuffed it. The place I stopped to charge is a regional grocery store (HyVee) that has great quick meal options with a dining room attached. This particular store is very close to my IKEA route and its solar charging is free. There are 4 spots, and each time I pulled in there was a non-EV taking up one space. It just so happened that I had a chance to talk to both people (I didn't scold). The first guy was curious about the range and was generally interested and very nice. The second lady said she comes to the store about 3 or 4 times per week and said she always parks there because of the shade provided by the solar panels. She said I was the very first car that she has seen use the station even though it's been there well over a year. She was super nice and seemed to know about Prii and how mine was different. Anyway, it was a great trip. I will attach the pictures below.
Sounds like you have found a niche and filled it- great idea for a small business. My only concern with taking longer trips in the PiP is that I find the seats uncomfortable after about 3-4 hours of driving. Great job on packing the car.
Congratulations on your Prius and your business. Nice company car. I understand shipping cost can be expensive, but what is YOUR time worth? As your business grows, time will be at a premium. You know you situation best. Good luck.
