Sounds like a nice project. Here's someone who did a blackout on the Prius with pics of the opened light:

Update: The new bracket has been (finally) cut and is in route. I went ahead and ordered the new v6.0 Morimoto mini H1 which is supposed to have improved lighting. Now I just need a few hours to change it out...

I bought the v6.0's outright. I still have the v5.0's. I'm not sure if I'll sell them or use them on my other car.

Ok, almost done with my project. Headlights painted and Retrofits in place. Where did you hook the 12v for the relay harness?

Hook the 12V into the fuse box. There's a squarish cover on the bottom left of the fuse box as you're facing it. Here's a pic from Nola-Prius' post:

Can't wait to see your result. Did they get you the new bracket (are your projectors centered)?

Yes, to the new brackets and no to the projectors centered, although that might have to do with the installer . Both projectors are slightly out of line, but in different areas. Right side is encroaching above, while left is encroaching below. Of course I noticed this after the fact. I managed to finish a few min ago, buuuuuut in the middle of rain, so had to rush. I still need to test cutoff line (I get the feeling it will need adjusting given the off centered stuff).

It is possible that I will have to rebake, pull apart, bake some more, and put together again. Hopefully that will address lousy installer work ;), but now that I have been once through all this, it should be quicker (I hope).

I will post pics as soon as possible.

    Cheers!

That's not too good to hear. It's weird that they are slightly different top to bottom unless you have the bracket flipped.

TRS was friendly enough, but they seem to struggle in the design/engineering/common sense space. I ended up measuring and drawing up the brackets myself in Sketchup. I then sent them the drawings with the hope that they would modify based on their own dimensioned drawings (I'm no pro). I even requested that they update the projector hole for the v6.0 MH1 and that didn't happen. There reco was to modify with a dremel.

Hopefully I get my car back from the body shop this week and can start working on it again this weekend.

Hmmm... the bracket is different top from bottom, so it is not upside-down. Now, the sides seem to be symmetrical. If they are not, there was no instruction or indication as to what goes where. That said, there was no instructions as to how to put together, but I assumed the order was:

    1. screw
    2. projector
    3. hex nut
    4. bracket
    5. hex nut with nylon insert or the rounded top

    everything tight together

So, I sadly discovered that my right light was pointing almost to the sky, while the other one seemed fine. Oops!

Today I re did everything. I took the bumper off, headlights off, baked, and opened.

With the back parts only, reinstalled to align. Big difference between them. Twisted the screw and presto, no more shinning light to passing helicopters.

This time, when I put back together, I made sure that everything was better placed. And huge difference, the projectors do seem almost perfectly aligned with the shroud.

Glad you figured it out. I'm curious (so I don't make the same mistake) what went wrong. I can't really visualize as there is almost only one way to put them in. Any pics?

so, inspired by this that this project started for me
    [IMG]
    I ended with this
    IMG_1807.JPG

    but not without its snags.

When putting back together again, between being this the first time I ever tackle a project like this, rushing, and so on, the projectors did not seem aligned with the shroud. I feel that when the glue cooled and everything back in place, well I did not see that the projector got snagged a bit with the shroud. Hopefully, the next pics will show that a bit. Hard to tell with reflections.

Left headlight --> leaning towards outside and down
    IMG_1809.JPG

    Rightside --> snagged on top.
IMG_1810.JPG So, patiently today, opened it up, made sure lights were aligned and put back together. When doing so, I made sure that the shroud was not touching the projector at any given point of the process of closing.

Now, both side look almost perfect.

No dishing the paint skills as that was a first too. Maybe one day, I will open again, sand off not so good parts and paint over.

    Enjoy!

How about now I go quads? Use the highbeam for another pair, paint and presto. Bet this would make my prius unique ;)

I love the color match to your car! It works really well with silver.

Thanks for the heads up on reassembly of the lens/shroud.

I did not exactly baked it in the oven. I left them in my attic for about three days before installing. I am pretty sure they got baked enough.

I bought the black guppy stuff from Retrofit Source. Baked headlights, opened, added the stuff, and baked again. So far it seems to have worked :))))

Adding on to this older thread since it has good info already.
I just installed this kit over the weekend. My over all thoughts are that its not at all ready for prime time. Its basically like using beta open source software, it works, but you are on your own to figure out how.
    1. The instructions- There are none, zip, zero. When I emailed and asked for some, what I got was a link to a Scion forum thread about an install in a FR-S. Not really helpful. When I emailed back telling them that I was disappointed, they apologized and said the kit was new for them so they had not done the instructions yet and sent better links to YouTube, still nothing Prius specific so you are on your own to figure out best mounting locations, knowing if you are using all the right parts, etc.
    2. The bracket- Whoever made this clearly has never installed it. The projector hits the bracket on the bottom, so I had to grind that out. Top screws that go into the headlight should be put into the bracket before the projector (If you had instructions you would know this). The nut holding the projector to the bracket hits the headlight, I had to grind the nut down. As this thread states, the projector is too high. (If it was centered, the top screws would go in easy and the mount screw wouldnt hit the headlight)
    3. Missing pieces- Doesnt come with the rear dust caps, which you for sure need, no reason not to include them. No plug for the high beam solenoid. It has pins but nothing to put them into so you can connect it. Not sure yet if this is a true missing or just another not included.
End result appears to be good, just know that if you are the kind of person that needs step by step instructions or not up for some work arounds and modifications, this may not be for you. I do believe this is still the easiest conversion kit available.

Fully agree that this is probably the best kit, but you need to be prepared to do some workarounds.

I was expecting something a bit more complete when I bought the kit. I was a little disappointed that the dust caps weren't included, or at least noted that they needed to be added. I also had the same issue of having to piece together information from around the net on how to install rather than having some complete instructions.

The people at TRS are nice enough, but some logic and testing would go a long way. The original bracket was way off in regards to how it placed the projector in relation to the factory shroud. It should have been a fairly simple fix, but took several months to get the bracket redesigned. Ultimately, I had to provide the drawings to them from scratch as they did not have drawings/files for the MH1 or bracket to start from. When I provided the drawings, I had asked them to check the specs and modify the bracket for the new MH1 6.0 that just came out. Unfortunately, the bracket was not modified to accept the 6.0 and like you was told that I had to grind out the opening. This was a pretty novice mistake on their part as they had the opportunity to fix it while modifying the bracket. Hopefully they are just going through their growing pains and can get a designer/engineer on staff.

I still haven't had a chance to get back to reinstall the projectors, but when I do I intend to document the process.
