Ok, the new version, 2.0.4 firmware, works on both my wife's ZVW30 (2010 Prius) and our NHW11 (2001-03 Prius.) The earlier version, 1.4.7, would not read the ZVW30 engine controller. So I'm putting that one up for auction.

So if you want on cheap for just the NHW11 (untested with the NHW20), bid $5 and hope no one else raises. Like any auction, bid what is fair and reasonable. Needless to say, no warranty other than return and full refund.

Warning: driving home this evening using the data recording option, it went into a 'progress bar' loop. Later, the virtual machine froze. Fortunately, I use a virtual PC system so I'm prepared to deal with software whose first 'debug' step is the 'three finger salute.'

    I have two comments,
    1. Mini-VCI is a very bad clone, you better buy original Mongoose MFC.
    2. 2003 and before vehicles are not fully supported by Techstream even with original Mongoose MFC

Do you have a recommended vendor for the "Mongoose MFC"? Estimated price?

As for TechStream support . . . well I have an opinion.

After getting version 2.0.4 firmware, miniVCI, my wife's 2010 Prius worked perfectly fine.

Its form $485 from eBay TunerTools account. I can get everybody a $20 discount on the original Mongoose Pro(MFC) from the tuner tools, Im using it since 4 years without a single problem.

I got the Mongoose MFC on internet for $80. It runs on Windows 7.
What I found is the clones one does not have the correct software to run OS other than XP.
After installed the correct software, all the clone ones also works on W7.

Could you be a little more specific about which clones and what firmware versions?

Also, what does "the correct software" mean? Perhaps identify source and version number or other identification info?

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

The Mongoose comes with these two software which make it to run on Windows 7 64 bit:
    J2534 - Mangoose Pro.exe
    TISKEY.exe

The other clones only have a hacked MAINMENU.EXE

I have versions 7.20.037, 8.00.034 & 8.10.021, they all run on W7 now. Before only the 8.00.034 will run in Vista 32 bit or in XP mode in a Virtual PC for W7 very slowly.

Ok, so this is what I see:

    . . .
    -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 bwilson bwilson 5.7M Nov 5 2010 MVCI Driver for TOYOTA.msi
    -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 bwilson bwilson 236K Nov 17 2009 TISKEY.exe
    -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 bwilson bwilson 103M Oct 9 2012 Toyota Techstream 7.20.037.exe
    drwxr-xr-x@ 6 bwilson bwilson 204B Dec 31 2008 driver

    drwxr-xr-x@ 6 bwilson bwilson 204B Dec 31 2008 ftdiport

What are the differences in the Techstreams:
    • 7.20.037
    • 8.00.034
    • 8.10.021
I've always assumed the only difference are the vehicles covered. Are there any other features of the higher versions over 7.20.037?

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

Looks like you got the same software.

I did not notice any differences in these versions because I only tested them on three vehicles, Rx330, TCH & a Corolla. I think most of the updates are just bug fixes. The TIS only has bug list for the latest version.

All these version are the standard versions, cannot do key coding.

Wait, can you use the Mangoose Pro and TISKEY executables instead of the hacked MainManu? What would be the advantage for doing that for 8.00.034 in 32 bit XP? I'm asking because I found the hacked 8.00.032 techstream/MVCM combo very buggy. It changed some options, but fatal errors and crashes with many data lists.

Are you saying 2.0.1 is older than 1.4.1? I know it doesn't make sense, but you said 2 years ago. Also, how I can tell what firmware I have? Techstream says VIM XHorse MVCI MVCI J2534 DLL v1.4.6. The MVCI firmware updater (ver 2.0.1) doesn't recognize the device despite being connected OK.

2.0.1 is from the original XHorse, 1.4.1 is a clone of the original. It seems like you got the latter which most likely is the same as what Bob got the 1st time. 2.0.4 and 1.4.6 is the latest update respectively.

The firmware updater was meant for the original but the service is no longer available.

Thanks. I guess I made the same mistake as Bob with getting the bad one.

Aliexpress sells it cheaply as "Quality B": Aliexpress.com : Buy Quality B MINI VCI TOYOTA TIS Techstream 8.10.021 Toyota Lexus Diagnostic Cable from Reliable Techstream suppliers on ChiShengOBD Store

As opposed to the "Original" 2.0.4 here: Aliexpress.com : Buy Original MINI VCI TOYOTA TIS Techstream 8.10.021 Toyota Lexus Diagnostic Cable from Reliable Techstream suppliers on ChiShengOBD Store

Just to make it clear, it is the miniVCI firmware version that matters:
    • 2.0.4 - works in both NHW11 and ZVW30
    • 1.4.6 - works only in NHW11 and the updater program discovers X-Horse has shut it out

Here is a little mystery. Finely, I got the 2.0.4 cable from China. It says 2.0.4 under MVCI updater tool, but 1.4.6 under Techstream (ver 8.10.021). Seems to work fine with 3rd gen Prius, unlike the other one I had (1.4.1), except for occasional loss of communication that goes away after retry. However, the K and L lines are NG (red) under cable check.
    Is this really 2.0.4?
