OP- it's your life, your money and your decision.
If you can swing it and the increased fuel cost won't bother you- follow your heart!

A new car is something like a relationship and how long the honeymoon period lasts, weeks?

What makes you think you won't get bored of pumping premium gas into the GTI? :p

If you are looking for driving experience, go with GTI.

If you are looking for ownership experience, keep the PiP.

I just came from a "Honda Fit Sport" which believe it or not, IMO was a blast to drive. Like a little go cart. Not really powerful but the balance and feel made driving it in many conditions "fun". So I do give credit to the " Fun to Drive" factor.

The Prius is no where as near as "tossable". The Prius is much more a cruiser, actually in many ways not as much "fun" but more comfortable. I recently took a long road trip up the Oregon Coast, it was a beautiful day, and The Prius's comfort and cruising ability made it a fantastic trip, the fact that the gasoline cost was minimal just added to the "fun".

So "fun" is kind of about approach and perspective. The Honda Fit was fun to drive, but a 500 mile road trip? It would of worn me out.

The Prius may not be as agile feeling, but especially as I get older, I appreciate it's smooth comfort much more.

I think ideally...owning more than one vehicle is really the best answer. I can't afford to do it right now, but I think owning The Prius for 95%+ of all your automotive needs, but then having a "fun" occasional weekend vehicle, or utility vehicle is really the best answer.

It goes counter to the low carbon footprint efficiency mantra professed by many Prius owners, but I think if I could afford it I'd own my Prius and a Jeep or other sports car. Then for those times when I just felt like a "different" driving experience, It would be possible. And hey, if your going to own an older jeep? It's good to have a new reliable vehicle when the inevitable break downs occur.

LOL !! Oh I know what you mean ... and same here with the leather seat(s) also.

Vacuum cleaner ... good one! ... Few years ago a guy on here called Prius a 'good boring car'. I call it a really 'chilled out' car. Pretty relaxing for a car. It's like so nice, so efficient and so well behaved it can get a 'tad' boring if you have a hankering for some fun or twistys or what have you (I've seen a few twistys on 2 wheels, like 50k miles of them)

    that's me on red bike Brettlead.jpg 31.jpg

We would pass cruisers like they were standing still :) Respectfully though ..

    enough bragging ...

Too bad they don't make a hybrid that C&D might call 'fun to drive'....

that said, I've seen an article that said, in 2010, the Fusion Hybrid was closest to what you'd call fun to drive.

Maybe try the new Jetta Hybrid? Turbocharged and you know it'll carve better than a Prius.

How about giving CT200h a try? Not a lot of power, but much more 'luxury/ sporty' experience.

I test drove a new GTI couple years ago, yeah, it was sweet. Don't think I could go back to a conventional for a daily driver. Too much traffic around here.

    Good luck!

That's a rumor at this point.

to the OP, sorry about the lease payments and all. Registration, insurance, gas and maintenance is more than enough for me. I'm keeping the pink slip and the car, despite my 'occasional' (?) gripes. :D

The 2015 Prius is exactly 2 years away, Spring 2015. So Op has 2 years to enjoy the GTI and comeback home.

I feel your pain. I love my C but when I am not driving it I think "so many cars, so little time." What I'm lusting for these days is a Tesla. I know, I know... but they are so cool.

Here a tread from a 2012 Prius C driver that just ended his lease early and switched to a volt.

    Goodbye Prius Family | PriusChat

I'll add +1 more for at least test driving a Volt and seeing if you have enough fun with it. The overall MPG would depend on if you could plug in at work, but even at 25K a year and one charge per day you should be in the 65-70MPG overall in a volt.

If it comes out mid 2015 it could very well be a 2016 like the 2010 was released in mid 2009 as a 2010...

I just sold my Prius and was going to get something more fun. In the mean time I rented something that gets 22mpg and put 1600 miles on this week(I drive 3000-4000 miles a month).

Guess what I'm buying tomorrow? A Prius. Just can't beat the mpg.

Hey guys, it's done. Sad to see the MPG's drop, but I picked up a 2012 GTI today - manual with nav/leather/xenons.

The MPG's will suffer, but what a car - great connection to the driving experience and it's super comfortable. Just fits like a glove. I had one before, so I know how it is longer term.

I will definitely be back though - I love cars, and with the next Prius who knows - maybe I'll jump back on.

Ideally I can't wait until they make a great, fun to drive hybrid type car that is affordable - like the GTI is. Tesla is good, but too expensive.

Based on experience I will never purchase a German car. Constant repairs, expensive parts, etc. fun to drive though. Toyota, Honda, Acura and Lexus is much better quality. Live and learn

keep your prius and buy a NA Miata (5speed of course) for under 3k. Great handling car + decent gas mileage.
