I got mine April 2, 2012. The only time I can really hear the vpns is when I drive it into the garage.

same here, sometimes when i'm traveling in a quiet area next to some type of wall structure and windows open.

I mean "annoying" compared to the RoadRunner "BeepBeep" piezoelectric beeps.

Actually, I have yet to hear the Toyota VPNS in real life, despite being passed daily by hordes & hordes of Prii here in Northern VA and Wash DC while I'm on foot. Maybe Prius drivers tend to disconnect the device once they purchase the car?

Frost-Free freezers just circulate cold air to get rid of frost.

That's true but they are in no hurry to get rid of the frost, a few degrees difference in temperature for an hour would be fine. And I believe they actually have a heating element. At least that's what the repairman tested for when he charged an exorbitant amount to fix the darn thing. Its needed to make the few degrees warmer air.

If you don't have frost in the first place and only need to prevent it, crack the windows while driving.

they have to be going under 16 mph. even then, unless you're walking along in front of them in a quiet area, you probably wouldn't notice it.
