Hi all, My parents just got a new Prius Three. Mostly my dad uses it. He drives about 20k a year for his job and his older car was getting under 20MPG so he will welcome the savings in gas. Got the dealer to throw in All weather mats as well. Of course it will be me showing them how to use the car and all the features The one question that came up was with the Smart key. What is Smart Key System on three doors with Push Button Start and remote illuminated entry vs the Remote keyless entry. In the Toyota Manual it says the Smart key system is Standard on the Three! Now maybe I am confusing it with my BMW and old Infiniti key that lets me touch the doors to unlock it which I thought would be "Smart key" Also if I press the button under the trunk in the rear of the car, it unlocks all my doors?
Maybe.. leave to your Dad. I think that we - the older generation at first would TRY whether pressing the button unlocks the door instead of asking Mr Internet Anyway - happy to see new Priusers - have fun
using the remote will unlock the door no problem. He said he didn't see any buttons on the door. He was pressing the door all over to unlock it. It was pouring outside so maybe he missed something. It's a fun car to drive. I gave it a drive for a few miles and it was nice. He figures he will save 200 a month in gas over his 2001 Acura CL Type S that took 93 and got under 20 MPG. It will be a fun game for him to try to top his mileage each month. Edit Just looked up a video and I bet he was pressing the wrong spot.
Turned out, he had the spare key under the rear seat and it wouldn't operate because the key was in range
