Can I join the club? I got 1005km or 624 miles on a tank. Used 40.44l or 10.68 gal. Average speed probably 30mph.
You shouldn't have a problem at all. I just finished a 606 mile tank with the display reading 59.9 mpg and filled with only 10.22 gallons. I do at least 30-40 miles after 0 all the time. You really don't need luck, you just need to get past the 600 mile mark. This one is in the bag!
Woohoo, my first 600 mile tank! This is the first spring for my 2013 Prius here in WI, and the warmer temperatures really make a difference. I was getting around 50 mpg on my commute during the winter, now getting around 60. Primarily regular commute, 50 mile round trip, a mix of 55/45/35/25 speed limits, no interstate Month of May, typical temps of 40-50F in the morning, 65-75F afternoon Drove roughly 40 miles after "0 miles to empty" Stock 15" wheel and tires Took only 10.02 gallons Calculated MPG was 61.1
I made the list! I credit some great tips by PriusChat members in enabling me to learn how to do it by my 9th tank. I drove 55 miles with a blinking PIP 35 after 0 miles to empty Took 10.237 gallons Calculated MPG was 59.10 Stock 15" wheels w/ OE Bridgestone tires Mostly highway driving with a lot of stop and g0
I am at 580 miles and just hit the 0 mile mark...tomorrow I am in the 600mile club : ) F8L get my number Ready...lol
Thanks Everyone for believing in me....I did it! 600 mile club Number # 40 PriusBull...lol tires front 40 back 38 went another 35 miles after the 0 mile mark rained two or three days, sunny and could the rest of the days temps were highs around 70 to 80, lows 50 to 60 615 miles : ) Display 63.1 - Raw 59.8 = 3.3 MPG OFF I stayed under the power mode as much as possible and stayed in EV mode as much as possible with the bar on EV about the 1/4 mark. 700 mile club is next I hope!
Wow, you were really pushing it (it appears). When you fill up, do you stop at the first click? Second? Other?
Wow indeed! That does show some nerve running the tank that low! You sir are a Hypermiling maniac! Were you carrying a can of fuel? How long did you go past DTE=0, and how far did you drive with one fuel gauge bar flashing?
Got it. I used to do that to, as a way to minimize chances of a quirky underfill. I found that I pretty consistently got 0.2 to 0.3 gallons on the extra click (after waiting 15 seconds to add the extra fuel). Since it was consistent, I eventually stopped doing it. Still, with how you were pushing the limit, having that extra 10-15 miles is a comfort.
600 miles should be a piece of cake on a tank if you fill the tank up to the top of the neck. When the pump stops at the first click and when on slow speed you can still nurse 2 gallons into the tank until you see standing fuel. This will give you 200 miles or so until you get off the first pip. I know, I know, this is suppose to be bad and your engine will have ill effects from this method, even though I have filled this way, not all the time, but at least 10-15 times, and the engine light did not come on, and the car has 97,000 plus miles. This is the same method that Wayne Gerdes from cleanmpg.com uses when testing vehicles for "true" fuel economy on the first tank.
I think the bigger concern is for the charcoal fuel canister that captures the fuel vapor (when you fill it to the neck), but that is your prerogative with your own car.
I have an proposal to add to the existing list's information. I would like to see the average mph denoted next to everyone's achievement. On my initial 600 mile tank, I averaged 37 mph (post #29). Recently I had another 600 mile tank (606), which I didn't submit because I was already on the list, with and average mph of 39 mph. It would be interesting to see the variations of mph for everyone's 600 mile tank. All of the info (pics) is on this thread already and just needs to be denoted. Just a thought!
Hey all! I finally hit a 600 mile tank on my Prius v! -- just barely though My technique is pretty simple: Use the EV mode button whenever possible like when in traffic or parking garage, etc. Try to stay at ~40mph whenever possible (and obeying the speed limits). Try to enjoy that traffic jam ahead of you since it results in higher mpg's The weather has been 70's & 80's. A/C has been on 75F on auto. I ran the tank 2 miles past the 0 mile range. About 15 miles past when the orange low fuel indicator turned on. My tires are stock, but I do have them at 41 PSI Mileage hand calculated out to 55.7MPG with 10.7 gallons used. Now what exactly do I get when I join the 600 mile club? I heard there were donuts involved.
