EV up & down, seasonal effect

    Just the old fashion measure of gallons divided by miles.

    I rarely ever refer to equivalent. Too few understand MPGE. It seems more practical to just report kWh used.

    Very noticeable improvement in EV range and MPG since it's warmed up (driving same route since Oct). Now routinely show 150mpg (with 200mpg high) on trip computer for 21 mile one-way commute (mix of local & highway w/ some hills). Hoping to get 1000+ miles out of current tank (something to brag to doubters about). Think the improvement more than makes up for running the AC.

    Since warm weather 60-80 degrees f. last two weeks most trips, 16.5-18.5 miles of all EV, and my start EV miles has increase from 12.5 up to 15.2. Car really likes warm weather! :) All my trips are in town 30-35 mph. All trips are from my house and return.

    18.5 seems really good round trip!

    Is there a leaderboard of most EV (100%) miles for a round trip?

    I know, this is one of my best in the last year, I did have a 19.6 about a week ago but no photo of that one. Thats when I put the camera in the car. I did not have anything over 17.6 in the first year, it's just been this late spring that things have gotten better for some reason. I am just really pleased! :D

    same here - continues to amaze me
    Just hit my target numbers - 2,000 miles, 2 months in and 90% EV !

    I'll confirm soon enough but my only gripe is the read showing gas used - says 5g but there's no way.
    Dealer had 20miles on it, read now says 194miles but I'm only down 3 bars plus I kept track anytime ICE kicked in.
    First fill-up will give me more definitive answers - in a few months ;-)

    Sounds about right. 10% of 2000 is 200 miles in HV. 200/5=40 mpg. That's probably a fairly good estimate considering the short HV trips you have and considering you haven't driven a regular Prius before (guessing). Remember, it rounds. So it could actually be 4.5 gallons which would actually make it 44 mpg.

    thanks I didn't know it rounded - I'm a newbie still learning !
    BUT ... also had in mind the 20 gas miles the dealer put on - backing those out gives me 194-20 = 174 so I was thinking more like 3 1/2 gallons tops. And that would better explain just being the 3 bars down on the gas icon...

    and yes first Prius of any kind, traded in a 1999 Avalon that got 24 mpg

    So have you studied up on the pulse and glide and all the tricks of how to drive it in HV?

    Could the dealer have topped off the tank after those 20 miles as part of the in-house new car procedure? I gave up trying to figure out how much the dealer put in the gas tank. Then I heard the best advice (too last for the first tank of course) to just fill it up after using up a little gas. That way you can top it off your way at a known pump so you can get consistent fill-ups and good MPG stats. Fuelly.com does not count the first fill-up for MPG, just as a starting Odometer measuring point. So make your first fill-up early and start tracking from there, and let the FUN MPG games begin!!!

    14.6 miles of EV yesterday, with the temperature at 64°F.

    11.7 miles of EV today, with the temperature at 46°F and some rain.

    Same route. Same time. Clearly, warmth is a major contributor to EV distance.

    The wet roads/rain will cut down on FE as well.

    Yup. That's a factor often overlooked during the winter... a time when roads are often wet.

    thats correct - I left with a full tank*, 20 gas miles on the read and 0 EV miles
    I couldn't do the test drive in EV because they didn't bother to charge it

    * full tank minus a few miles from the gas station they use

    I found all that pretty intuitive - plus a friend has a Prius 3
    I watch the monitor and do what I can. But not a heck of a lot of practice given I'm at 91% EV !
    When I get over 3,000 miles I'll fill up and confirm what I'm thinking - those gas bars have to have some basis in reality

    It was only 63°F this morning, but the EV distance (actual driven all at once with a cold engine) climbed to 15.4 miles.

    i see the same effect. even tho we've had some cooler days, (50's to low 60's) now that my ev is upto 16-17 miles, it doesn't seem to drop like in the fall when it cools off and stays there.:confused:

    Over the last three months my estimated EV range has increased from a low of 8.6 to a high of 9.8 miles.
    Despite my low EV the life time mpg is 166 mpg and my last tank was a 1000+ miles. Since my last fillup I am averaging ~500 mpg. Since I got the car back in October I have spent $45.37 on gas.
    Of course 95%+ of my driving is city and 95% of my trips are <25 miles rt.
