Well, it has been a while since I've been a Prius owner and am ready to get back in. Offered what I think is a good deal? $3000 off sticker on a IV with sunroof pkg, but, not sure if I should buy it or wait for the 2014's? I've heard the 2014 model may get a redesign, a plug in on all models, and /or a new battery. Any advice and confirmation of 2014 updates is appreciated! Thank you!
The Prius' first two generations lasted 6 years before a redesign. 2014 will be the current generation's fifth year so it's unlikely that it'll be replaced just after 4 years on the market. The industry norm is a 5-year turnaround (except for luxury cars which tend to be redesigned every 8-10 years).
My understanding from a number of sources is the next generation Prius will be a 2015 model. I would grab a 2013 with a discount or wait until 2016.
You never know. Based on previous releases, 2014 won't be available until next Nov-Jan. There didn't seem to be a lot of dealing on the 2012's at the end of the year based on some comments on the board (I wasn't following very close however). It really depends if you want a car now or can wait. When I bought mine, I looked at what was some of the best prices in the country (before tax, title & license). Then I shopped all of the local dealers until one was willing to get to what I thought was a fair price. I was also willing to hop on a plane if I had too.
Not likely. You are already below invoice with the $3,000 off MSRP. I've not seen a lot of deals far enough below that to warrant waiting. It's up to you though. There will not be any major changes to the 2014 like you described in your post. At least not that we have heard of. Gen IV Prius Speculation | PriusChat
This is one of the articles I read that spoke about new updates, one line says a little more than a year away, and the article was written 11/2012; Toyota planning Prius evolution with big redesign for 2014 - SlashGear Under the shell there’ll be a new hybrid system, part of Toyota’s plan to refresh its Earth-friendly range considerably by 2015, with better driving dynamics promised. The new Prius – which Hostetter says won’t arrive in showrooms for “a little more than a year” – will debut a modular platform with a “whole new architecture” that will go on to form the basis of future Toyota models.
I think the discount will get better as the year progresses. That is why I got such a good deal on my car! Well, and it just happened to be the end of the year...so they wanted to get that car sold. If you can wait, then go for it. I started a bidding war at first with all the dealers in my area. I told them what I wanted, and waited for the offers. Some e-mailed me back, some didn't. If they didn't e-mail back, I didn't consider it because I wanted everything in writing and frankly didn't want to be on the phone 24/7. I also downloaded the Consumer Reports lowest price report to get an idea of what I could reasonably ask for. I went to the dealer closest to me, told them that I wanted to leave out the door with X price including all taxes, etc. and they honored it. As a matter of fact, they went lower because Toyota had an end of the year promotion where you could choose an interest rate or discount. Not a bad thing that they went lower. My view is that the models aren't going to be different, so go for the older model year. But, if you can wait until 2015, I have been told by multiple reps at car shows that they expect that to be redesigned. If not, all our cars won't look old.
Maybe, but $3000 off sticker is a pretty good deal. Plus keep in mind, all it's going to take is a hurricane to threaten the gulf coast and the price of gas will skyrocket again. Once that happens, you'll be paying full sticker for any Prius you can find.
If you're not in a hurry to buy, just wait to see what competition is in the market in the next 2-3 years. It should only get better. But if its something that you kinda need now, then just get the 2013. $3k below msrp is good, and take advantage of the apr promotions if you qualify. You never know what the market would look like in a couple if months so if for sure you gonna buy, lock in now bc I'm almost positive it won't get significantly any lesser.
2015 model, or released in year 2015? If a 2015 model, that should mean there will be spy shots appearing middle of this year. It would probably be revealed in Detroit next January..... but, isn't 4th generation Prius to be revealed Jan 2015, released middle of 2015 as a 2016 model year? This would give 6 model years on the 3rd gen like it was for the 2nd gen. But, there is more competition now so maybe they will only go 5 model years for 3rd g
Do it (now). I'd wait for the dust to settle on the Gen 4, when ever that is. Wouldn't want to pay a premium for a new model.
The best deals to be had is usually around August during clearance sales to clear the current year models for the next year models. However, Prius is one of those cars very sensitive to gas prices. There were few deals to be had in California last year because of odd price spikes in gas at the time. So if I found good price on a Prius now with 0% financing, I'd probably do it. Just heard on the news that gas prices have risen the last two weeks. Who knows how long this will last? Oh to pile on, Gen 2 lasted 6 years from 2004-2009. So it's reasonable to expect Gen 3 to last 2010-2015. You'd have to wait 2+ years for the Gen 4.
It may not be available with factory promotional discounts, but it is with dealer discounts. So haggle away and enjoy the 0%
