Gas just jumped up .08 a gallon around here, so who knows what's going to happen to sales if that continues.

It is unfortunate to hear, but not really surprised with sales.

I'll take the above as your answer to gm retirees, and pre-bankruptcy customers. Could you tell them the above while looking them eye to eye?

    DBCassidy

You got to be kidding! Employees put their trust and faith in working for gm for DECADES. The pension system is a way to inspire employee LOYALITY.

You really don't get it or want to understand.

    DBCassidy

Yes, I remember that fiasco. Does it ever stop?

What ever happened to ethics, integrity, and honestly?

    DBCassidy

Again, I ask the question about you taking state and federal tax incentives. Since you avoided answering the first time around.

    What is your answer?

Of course I did. You didn't answer my question either so I didn't feel compelled to answer yours. :)

    Thank you,

I see where you are going with this (down hill, cat and mouse games). Please, do not come back when you get your volt and say you were not warned.

Nobody really wants to hear any sob stories.

Not mentioning the PiP is kind of ironic in an article about a drop in sales since the drop in Volt sales was small while the drop in PiP sales was large. What's really sad about the PiP drop is that it has a $3,500 (at worst $2,500 after shipping) incentive available to anyone who wants it, and combine with the Fed Cred makes a base PiP less than $2k more than the Prius 3. I hope all those new Prius buyers are getting great deals.

To the contrary, people like hearing about first hand experience. That is the point of forums like these. Potential buyers look for information like this and current vehicle owners use this information as justification for their purchase.

Now rants like yours on the other hand.......

FWIW I am thinking DB does not own a PiP, and therefore the hybrid Prius version gets no tax credit except possibly Colorado/Oregon in past years.

Ahh that makes sense, John and Wj. :)

I really hope that Toyota comes up with a perfect mix of technology, utility and price. Currently there are compromises with each plug in option out there. It's to be expected since each manufacturer is feeling out the market. Toyota played it safe. Nothing wrong with that other than losing some of their progressive image. :)

FWIW Austin Green linked to another USA Today article in the thread Now NJ wants to tax Plug-Ins. I have given up trying to understand the Plug_in sales since I do not know what is behind the numbers (consumers vs. fleet sales etc). Tesla is interesting as that would seem to be individual people buying them.

As I mentioned in another thread, what seems to be happening is the price of plug-ins is dropping down to the point where the added $$ incentives are very attractive, maybe even too generous in some cases. But I do not see any move to reduce the Federal incentives in the near-term, so perhaps my next car is a Plug_In if the situation is still the same 3-4 yrs from now or so, when I am back in the market. I am a pragmatist, I will go for low cost of ownership even if that comes from tax credits, like C4C.

Both my 2006 and 2007 Prius had federal tax incentives if I remember correctly. I think the incentives were deductions from taxable income rather than credits against tax liability though. Even if you bought a used Prius, the vehicle carries the value of the original tax incentives. Federal tax incentives helped all Prius sales, even after the incentives phased out.

...mine too. It was a tax credit but with an overly strict AMT income test which disallowed a significant portion of the credit for many owners. Hey I got the Hybrid, C4C tax credits. So I need to get the Plug_in credit so keep my record going. But the $3150 Prius tax credit ended Sept_2006 (my car) then it went to 50% then 25% into 2007 but not too much longer.

My example, was just for vehicle trim levels I was looking at. Base price delta on a 2005 Prius and 2013 Prius is $3000. On the Civic, it's $4800. On a Sonata, it's almost $4000. Prius prices has crept up slowly but other cars have upped the ante in technology considerably along with their MSRP. Ford didn't think they could sell $20k Focus, now they have a the Titanium model just under $30k. Looking at my ibond returns the last 5 decades, inflation has been lower than desired.

I registered the same day the it came online, but I could not effectively communicated with a dealer in Virginia, so I decided not to order then.
