I live in Denver, Colorado. My local dealer has three Prius plug-ins relocated from AZ. I would like to purchase one, but I am not sure about being able to collect state tax credit for 2013 tax year, since Prius plug-in is not on the state FYI-67 for the 2012 tax year's list yet. It may be on the 2013 or 2014 list after this car becomes available in the end of 2013 or the beginning of 2014. Should I buy it or wait?
Good question! We don't know yet. I am assuming the PIP is in the different catergory with regular Prius. The credit of regular Prius is already redued a lot, but the PIP should be in its highest level, if it is on the list.
If it is not on the list assume you won't get the credit. What are we talking $1,000 tax credit? How bad you want the car?
Wait...if you can. 2015 model year will see big changes in the Prius. You will also be able to see how the C-Max and Ford Fusion do. Both get 20 miles EV vs. Prius 10 so for a 20 mile commuter the much better C-Max/Fusions become full EV vehicle. I was thinking of trading my front seat torture chamber 2012 Prius in for a Fusion-Energi but I decided to wait for the 2015 Prius and to see how the Fusion hybrid mpg turns out. If it's a real 47 mpg in hybrid mode and 20 miles in EV mode it becomes a 90 mpg car for me.
Claudias and I have similar plans . I have a Prius 2012. I like the car. Very economical, practical, reliable, ride is good not great. Seats need vast improvement, OK for short commutes not good for long drives. It's a Eco Box but that is what I like now. Going back to basics with Transportation when I purchased it, gave up on the BMW. However the 2015 Pip sounds like the advancement will be worth the wait. I too will take a strong look at the new PIP and I'm willing to sign on the dotted line if the car meets some of the advances which are already out there and have a reasonable price.
We went to check both Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi, and both truck spaces are so amall. They are almost useless. Should 2015 PIP come out in the fall of 2014?
Should 2015 PIP come out in the fall of 2014? Read more: http://priuschat.com/threads/buy-now-or-wait.125731/#ixzz2Rx34NRCo It may. You need cross your fingers... PIP may lag the release of regular Prius. There may be no discount if you buy it right after the release.
The PiP came out 2.5 years after the Gen 3 Prius was released. The Gen 4 release date hasn't even been announced yet. I wouldn't bank on something that hasn't been announced yet. You might have to wait much longer than 2 years. Despite that, I am also in agreement with iClaudius and JMD. If there is nothing wrong with your current Prius, I'd wait. If you really really want to buy then at least wait 6 months until Fall 2013. Toyota had a terrible time selling these things last year and offered incredible deals and financing on the PiP. I got mine for the price of a regular Prius three. So far, it looks like its going to be even worse for Toyota this year because now there is more competition.
