Rear Wiper improved sweep

In case anyone else besides us is as annoyed with the nearly worthless rear window wiper, you may want to view our solution in the general forum. An articulated 18" wiper blade is a huge improvement on the OEM 6" blade. Articulated arm keeps the blade horizontal so it fits under the spoiler and wipes rotating too. Wild.. No drilling on the rear lid and the change easily reverts back to OEM.

Go to you tube "rear wndow improvement on Prius' to see it working. Its upside down because using windows movie maker to rotate 1780 degrees resulted in jerky movements, which it does not. anyway its nice to see more than one lane behind. Yeah, Toyota can fix it better for production.

 

If you watch the video on you tube you'll see that the wiper blade stays horizontal and well clear of the top and bottom of the window so the width of the wiper area is greatly increased. its why the blade is articulated; both arms are the same length but being side by side the action is a parallelogram with swinging side arms and thus the upper side, the blade, always is horizontal. The only increase is the length of the sidearms and at the top they are short of the top of the window but not by much. I'm waiting for a real rain to video the wipers from the cockpit.

 

Thanks for those of you who provided the links. this weekend had the chance to use the wiper in a heavy rain. The increased wiped area is appreciated especially on the interstate where lots of traffic exceeds the speed limit by 25 mph or more. Wish I had the camera mounted backwards. Next time I'll add a second camera, looking backwards.
Our shop has modifified lots of cars over the years but I can honestly say this is one of the better ones. Weve done this for 2 cars besides ours and its well liked. Manufactuers should make this kind of rear window wiper the normal.
Yeah, it is massive to have a 19" wiper swiping side to side ! And amusing.

 

The second wiper arm hinges on a large suction cup. When it rains I'll get a longer wiper time on the video. with water hose sprtay its well appreciated by me. I like to know whatsx coming up behind. Its not like my Vette; nobody's coming up behind.
like I said no drilling or changes you would have to make that you can't undo. Even the primary arm extension is riveted on the original and can just as easily be returned to OEM.
