Prius v wagon Top Speed

I know it has a higher final drive ratio, for better acceleration. That should lower top speed, but I have never personally had mine over 95 MPH, so I am not prepared to say what it is.

I have a document with the gear tooth counts for the standard Prius. The top speed of the standard Prius is 113 mph at the MG2 max speed of 13500 RPM, using the standard tires of 195/65R15 tires.

Substituting the higher final drive ratio of 3.70 for the v, I come up with 100 mph top speed. Close to the Toyota spec of 103.

Does the v come with the same size tires as the Liftbacks? If not the difference in tire size could account for some difference in the calculation.

 

I didn't know about the difference in "gearing", and since the station wagon probably has about the same Cd as the more trim members of the G3 lineup, I suspect that it's electronically rather than drag limited.....so yeah.
A little over a buck sounds right to me.

Seems impossible but that's what the video shows and don't know the specifics.

That's kilometers chief. Prius will do 116mph, personally verified. Haven't tried the wifes V......yet

Converting 215kph is 133mph. I haven't tried it on my V's yet and was just sharing a YouTube video.

 

It. Won't. Do. 133mph. Convert the speed in your video to mph and that's the speed it's doing. It takes a Prius nearly 11 seconds to reach 60, you really think one broke 130 that quick? Short answer, no.

Land speed record at Bonneville for a modified Prius is 'only' 130 MPH (with a push truck) Hard to believe a stock one is faster.

I don't think I am the right person to answer your question. Remember, this is not a US version Prius. You may need to ask the youtube account owner to verify it. I can't comment on things I don't have or done. I can only speculate. Read my post at the bottom "seems impossible".

 

If I substitute the above tire size in the equation then the top speed calculation comes out to 102.25 mph. Even closer to the Toyota spec of 103 mph.

I just chose a Michelin Energy Saver AS tire in the 250/60R16 size and used this tires Revs/Mile. Other OEM tires will vary in Revs/Mile and would change the calculation slightly.

Due to the potential of the California State Highway Patrol reviewing this site, I "plead the Fifth" and decline to comment. (But I-10 between Indio CA and Buckeye AZ is flat and smooth, and it's been rumored that a Prius was clocked at 105 mph in that area. Just saying....)

You can't assume that. The GenIII Prius has a Cd of 0.25, and is the lowest Cd of any mass-produced car. The v has a Cd of 0.29. That alone may be enough to account for the 20% MPG hit you get with the v.

 

The v has a different drive ratio, which is the main reason for lower MPG.

 

I can see how both affect top speed, but how does the drive ratio affect MPG? Though higher frictional and pumping losses in a conventional car, but how in the Prius? We're always running the engine at its most efficient RPM for its load, so doesn't that compensate for the higher final drive ratio?
