Meh. I'll pass on that one --- the strobe effect really seems annoying for someone who actually needs the light to see where they are stepping. And having to reopen the door to change the sitting seems like a hassle. I put some of these on all my vehicles and am pleased with the results: 194 168 W5W 2825 Map Led Parking Signal Marker Bulbs I got the super wide Oval forward facing 4 led version. For the whites, the 8K is a little too blue for my taste, the 6K is not as harsh, and the 3K is fairly close to the OEM incandescent.
You don't have to close and open the door again to change the ligthing effect. I just showed it as a demo on how the light works. Just press the door switch and wala, you want the light you need. The mod does not require any wiring or strobe module. All it needs is just replacing the bulb with this LED bulb with some creative thinking and use of a long nose pliers. Door switch? Do you mean the lock/unlock button on the outside door handle? Well, as long as it stays on that setting. Meaning, if you have it on steady it always stays that way until you press the door lock (while the door is open) to change settings.
It's the black rubber switch close to where the vehicle info is located - VIN #, color code, interior code and manufactured date. When the door is open depending on the cycle, the light stays strobe all the time or a steady light all the time. Closing and opening the door(presses/releases door switch) or pressing and releasing the door switch manually triggers the change of lighting cycle. That is correct.
Does it remember which setting it was on last or does it switch off every time the door is opened? I.e can I make it strobe every time I open the door?
Got no use of it as a steady light either. My puddle light does the job better than the door lights. I do park on the side of the streets a lot at night and I see some safety benefits to it when I open the door to exit. Plus I have the benefit to have options of having both strobe and steady light. It makes identification from a distance much easier when some looks for you too. But again, your liking may not be my liking and vice versa.
Cheap SMD LED panels, like the ones pictured below, made a huge different to my door lights (and my vanity lights, map lights(x2 each), and my trunk light. A pair of 49 LED panels really lights up the dome light.) They were cheap, installed easily and have been there almost 2 years without issue. Whole interior for under $20.
Yup - cheap and effective. Where I doubled up the panels, I soldered the panel together at the connector - each some simply spring loaded against the contacts. It did take an extra 20 minutes to do all the soldering, but it was worth it.
