Feature Comparision

Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it! It was a little tricky to view (the file doesn't seem to end in .pdf when I download it; so I had to rename to open).

This is a great comparison tool; and reinforced my decision (phew). It was difficult for me to really compare while I was shopping in the showroom; so I think this document would be great for a buyer. Although I would have made the same decision; I really wish I had this document when I went shopping. It is a much clearer comparison tool than anything I found at the dealer.

Thanks for your effort. Very nice comparison. Whether I keep my 2012 Prius Plug In Advance a few years or many, I learned years ago that more options is best. Since I didn't pay full MSRP for my Prius, the difference in price between the base model and the advance, wasn't a huge issue, so I opted for more options. In addition, I deferred the cost over five years.

 

Similarity, I got such a deal on the Advance that I went with it over the Base (also have a shedding Lab so the soft tex seats are much easier to keep hairless) and when on assumption that I can get a much better trade in down the line - like if they ever bring the EV RAV4 to the east coast

 

At $7500 price delta, it wasn't worth it. But late last year to clear inventory, I think the difference got down to some $4500. Then it made a lot more sense. But ultimately, I looked at resale value. The PiPA is like the most expensive house on the block. Your value is limited by the cheapest house on the block. So depreciation for both model PiPs will be higher than regular Prius in my opinion. PiPA being worst of all.

 

Cheaper is best, more is best? I'm confused, or I should be, but I'm not. No profit or loss realized until we sell. Until then, we get to live in the most expensive house on the block. Right or wrong, worth it or not, can't be answered by Prius Plug In Base or Advance, or the difference you paid between the two. I wouldn't give up my advance model for a base model, for the difference I paid.

 

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer; it's up to individual preference. The spreadsheet just makes the differences easier to decipher.

I prefer cloth seats to any other type, so that was part of the choice for me. But I do wish I had the additional data logging/display of the advanced.

Since I usually keep cars 10 to 15 years; there isn't usually a significant difference in value when I trade or sell for extra options.

It's a value proposition. There is no clear answer which is better. There's only what's best to you.

Exactly. And that is why you have to find value the $7500 in upgraded options.
