Average charge time from 120v source is usually around 2h45m starting w/a a fully depleted battery at above 32deg temps.

Average charge time from 240v source is usually around 1h30m starting w/a a fully depleted battery at above 32deg temps.

2h10m isn't normal for a full charge from empty on a 120v source.

 

not sure why we all experience different charge rates. i was pretty close to 3 hours on 120v, and am close to 1 1/2 hours on 240v. it's nice when i'm recharging several times a day. i wonder if you would recharge in 65 minutes on 240v?
another thing is: what is zero? when you run out of ev, you start eating into the hv portion. so, you're always recharging from a different level. not huge, but some difference.

 

It usually takes about 2 hrs and 20 minutes for a full charge for mine. My car is garaged, and the temperature doesn't seem to affect the charge time much. Of course, this is Ca., so garage temps are usually in the high forties and above.

 

I actually have been thinking of posting the same topic. I already have a 220 outlet in the garage, thanks to the previous owner being a welder, so it would be is to install a charging station. Is there any benefits, other than convenience, in installing a 220 unit.

 

I'm definitely "filling up" in less than 3 hours. I'd say average is more like 2.5 hours. And we quite often arrive home with less than 1 mile. Yesterday it was like .1 hehee. I'm probably still going to get the 240 because I want some of the other features of the openevse; and it's just a lot more convenient to leave the other cable in the trunk.

My garage is in the low to mid 60's F all year long.

 

240v charging is a few percent more efficient than 120v charging, but it's not enough of a difference to make it worth your while to upgrade just because of that. Faster charging time is the main advantage to 240v charging.
FWIW- the bulk of the 240 charging is done in the first hour- then the current drops to less than half to finish up the full charge.

 

I get about the same as fortytwok - EV completely exhausted consistently takes 2:10-2:20 for a full charge.

 

Hmm I think this is strange i do have 240v and the standard charging cord as for living in EU and should there for charge in 1 hour 30 min. But it always says 2.4 hours it looks done at one and a half hour if you look on the display the battery is at the top but its still charging with 0.5 kW instead of 1.8 kW that its charging with in the begining.

 

yes, it slows way down as it fills up. you can get a lot of charging down in 1 1/2 - 2 hours. not really sure if the last .5 - 1.0 mile is worth the time if you need to go somewhere.

 

Thank you! Right now I am able to recharge in less than 3hrs. So i think for now may hold of on the 240. Maybe I will buy some all weather mats instead.
