Fuel Economy has a great calculator for putting in your exact driving demographic and seeing how much fuel one of the PHEV's or EV's will use.

    PHEV Fuel Economy

For my driving, 300 miles a week of mostly freeway high speed commute, 20 miles a day mostly city the rest of the week and three trips of 1200 miles each per year, it says 80 mpg average. That's figuring on two charges a day normally, home and work on commutes and three times a day on the trips.

That comes close to my doubling mileage every three years goal and does it two years early. My 2012 Prius is a solid 50 mpg performer and 80 mpg, while not quite doubling, gets me close and two years ahead of schedule.

Sheesh...I guess they are selling. The $42K one I was interested in sold before I could get there. They do have a Silver $45K though.

It doesn't come in gallons. My main interest is cutting my oil use, cutting my emissions. I purchase wind energy from my electric utility so for me electricity is riding the wind vs. using oil and reaping the whirl wind.

That was the Fuel Economy estimation of fuel use for my 22,186 miles per year driving.

They had the Prius at almost 100 gallons more per year. I'm guessing based on 10 miles EV on Prius vs. 20 miles EV on Fusion.

gotcha. that makes sense. i agree with using less oil. of course, it depends on how far you drive after each charge.

Did you look at the C-Max Energi? I'm guessing you did since you've been to the dealership already. I have the C-Max Energi and I've been enjoying it a lot since I purchased it :)

My Average mpg has been around 75mpg with the commute that I do. I usually drive on all electric during the weekdays, since my job is ~11 miles away and I can charge back at work. However on the weekends I tend to drive ~300 miles or so, I've been doing ~500miles/week and that's what brings my overall mpg down. If I didn't drive so much on the weekends, my average mpg would be significantly higher.

The Low would be the reduced storage space in the trunk and the clunky myfordtouch system, but that's not that bad, it still has a good amount. Everything else is really great with the car, I've been enjoying it a lot. Even the myfordtouch is usable and works relatively well, just not the way you'd expect a modern touch screen to work after coming from the world of tablets. I've got about 2000 miles on the car already and it's only been 3 weeks!
