I've got a Type II Prius and have had to replace the MFD a couple of years ago. Note that I bought the car in Sept. of 2006 and a technical service bulletin from toyota was out on the MFD regarding it's failures in Jan. of 2005! I've heard of several Prius owners who've had this issue. Anyway, I wonder if the MFD's in the Type III's have been reliable or if the same old problem still exists. It's an expensive piece of equipment and, in my opinion, Toyota should've covered this for their customers.

I'm going to correct you here. This was not a multi post. It's two different questions. This one is about new MFD's on the Type III cars since I'm thinking of buying a new car. The second is regarding replaced MFD's on Type II's. Please consider really reading the posts before you decide to chastise someone. ;)

Now, with that being said, I'd like to hear from Type III owners regarding the reliability of their MFDs. the replaced one in my Type II is starting to act up again.

Haven't had a gen III long enough to give valid feed back. But FWIW, I owned my previous gen 111 for a little bit over a year, and no issues. After a year of surfing through the gen III forums, I haven't come across such an issue.

I had the speedometer section of my 2010 liftback burn out during a hightway night trip, a couple months ago. It had buzzed on night trips previously and we had contacted our dealer when we first suspected a problem a couple of years ago. The dealer covered the repair as goodwill even though we were past warranty at time of complete failure. We have one of the early generation 3 builds.

7 years no major part replacements? That is why I decided to go with Toyota, and stayed away from Ford/Chevy/Nissan hybrids.

Odometer was 36311 miles and functioning at time of speedometer panel failure 3/11/2013. Liftback purchased 6/2009.
